Youm-e-Takbeer is observed in Pakistan every year on May 28 to commemorate the day in 1998 when the country successfully conducted its first nuclear tests. These tests were carried out in the Chagai district of Balochistan as a direct response to nuclear tests conducted by India earlier that month. The decision to go ahead with the tests was made under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The nuclear program itself was developed over decades with key contributions from Pakistani scientists, most notably Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, who played a central role in making Pakistan a nuclear-armed state. The day is seen as a symbol of national strength, pride, and sovereignty, and it is marked with patriotic events and tributes to those who contributed to the country’s defense capabilities.
