صحیح بخاری و مسلم میں حضرت جابر بن عبداللہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک بدوی (غورث بن حارث) نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی تلوار نیند کی حالت میں نکال لی اور پوچھا: "اے محمد! اب آپ کو مجھ سے کون بچائے گا؟" آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پرسکون ہو کر جواب دیا: "اللہ" .

اس کے بعد تلوار اس شخص کے ہاتھ سے گر گئی۔ امام احمد کی روایت میں ہے کہ جب تلوار گر گئی تو آپ نے خود اسے اٹھا کر فرمایا: "اب تمہیں مجھ سے کون بچائے گا؟" اس شخص نے معافی مانگی اور وعدہ کیا کہ وہ آپ سے نہ لڑے گا، چنانچہ آپ نے اسے معاف کر دیا اور اسے کوئی سزا نہ دی .

یہ واقعہ فرشتے جبرائیل کے آنے کے بغیر، صرف اللہ پر توکل کی وجہ سے پیش آیا۔
