Embracing the Journey: A Mother's Confession about Her Child with ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a widely recognized mental disorder that affects many children. As a mother, I found myself faced with the reality of my son's ADHD symptoms when he was just two years old.

Denial initially clouded my perception, as I wished for nothing more than a "normal" life for my child. However, as he grew older, it became clear that he was different from his peers. This is my confession as a mother of a child with ADHD and how I learned to embrace his uniqueness.

Acceptance and Love: I made the conscious decision to accept my son for who he is and to love him unconditionally. It was a journey of self-reflection and understanding, as I realized that his differences did not define him as a person.

My love for him became the foundation of my support and advocacy for his well-being. Becoming a SPED Teacher: When Bacungan District (DepEd) offered me the opportunity to become a Special Education (SPED) teacher, I saw it as a chance to deepen my understanding of my son's needs. I knew it would be challenging, but I was determined to be there for him. This was my time to learn and grow alongside him, embracing his unique style and finding ways to support his development.

Navigating the Assessment: Seeking professional guidance, I took my son to a specialist, accompanied by one of our most respected teachers in the district. Hearing the assessment and confirming that something wasn't quite right was undoubtedly heart-wrenching for me as a mother.

I questioned myself and wondered if I had done something wrong. However, I knew I had to remain strong for my son. He needed me to be his rock, his unwavering support. Love became my guiding force. Progress and Growth: As my son's education continued, I witnessed his gradual progress and growth. With the support of my co-teachers, he began to adapt and integrate with his classmates and schoolmates. He started recognizing people and even began reading CVC words.

These milestones, no matter how small, filled my heart with pride and hope for his future. A Channel of Hope: To all parents of children with special needs, I want to emphasize that our children are unique and capable individuals.

They may face challenges, but that doesn't diminish their potential. Instead of seeing ourselves as barriers to their improvement, let us become channels of hope and support for them. I stand alongside all parents of children with special needs, advocating for their rights and celebrating their abilities.

My journey as a mother of a child with ADHD has been filled with challenges, heartache, and immense love. Through acceptance, understanding, and unwavering support, I have witnessed my son's growth and progress.

He continues to defy expectations, reminding me that he is not disabled but rather incredibly able. Let us stand together, embracing the uniqueness of our children and championing their potential. They are not defined by their differences but by the love and support we provide.

Bacungan National High School triumphs in Taekwondo Kyurugi at ZNAA Qualifying Meet

February 2, 2024| BNHS along with Salug NHS represent Cluster 4 in Taekwondo events at ZNAA Qualifying meet held in Sindangan.

The team kicks three 3 Golds for Kyurugi category , D. DOFITAS in Fin Weight, Z. RADA for open weight and A IBO welter weight Category.

Meanwhile, Aragon wins 1 gold in Taekwondo Pomsae. OVERALL BNHS bags 4 Gold, 9 silver and 3 Bronze medals. Along BNhS of Cluster 4 is Salug NHS who also wins 2 Gold and 2 silver.

To note, Taekwondo the sport of Korea has 2 categories, Poomsae refers to individual artistic expression while Kyurugi is the sparring and combat.

This success is made possible through its coach P. BAYAWA III, J. SUMAGANG AND L. SARZATE.

The school thanks the Local Chief Executive of Leon B. Postigo Hon. mayor Runie O. Jamora for the all out support since cluster qualifying rounds. Also to the parents and the whole staff.
