The wait is over, ! A new semester is here at Visayas State University Villaba, bringing fresh opportunities to learn, grow, and make a difference.

As we officially open the First Semester of Academic Year 2026–2027 on 10 August 2026, may we begin this journey with determination, resilience, and the passion to achieve excellence.

Whether you're a first-year, transferee, or continuing student, this event is designed to help you start the semester informed, inspired, and ready to thrive.

📌 Attendance is required. Attendance will be monitored and recorded by the University Supreme Student Council (USSC) and the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS).

No dream is too old, and no goal is ever too late. 🔰

Tatay Sir Rene's story reminds us that determination can turn delayed dreams into reality. May his inspiring journey encourage every Villaba Viscan to keep believing, keep striving, and never give up on their dreams.

DREAMS DON’T EXPIRE🎓

“Kung duna kay pangandoy, padayon lang.”

These were the words of Rene D. Arpon, a father of six who carried one unfinished dream since grade school: to earn a college degree.

Years later, he returned to the classroom while serving as the barangay secretary of San Francisco in Villaba, Leyte. He was much older than most of his classmates, but seeing his own children work hard for their education gave him another reason to continue.

His most difficult period came during the pandemic. When classes shifted to modular learning, Arpon had to regularly retrieve and submit his school requirements while balancing his work and responsibilities at home.

The journey became even more physically demanding because he was also battling recurring arthritis attacks. Despite the pain, he continued completing his requirements with the support of his family and fellow barangay officials.

In July 2023, Arpon finally earned his Bachelor of Elementary Education degree from Visayas State University–Villaba Campus at 55. He also received the Endeavor Award in recognition of the perseverance he showed throughout his studies.

But receiving his diploma was not the end of the dream.

Arpon hoped to pass the teachers’ licensure examination and spend his remaining working years serving in a public school.

In September 2024, at 57, he passed the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers on his first attempt.

The father who once drew inspiration from his children had now given them a powerful example of his own: dreams may be delayed by hardship, responsibility, illness, or age, but they do not have to be abandoned.
