Jeepney rides are like relationshipsโsome are spacious and comfortable, but others leave you gasping for breath. Yet you stay, convincing yourself that the ride is worth itโeven when you know it isnโt, even when the road leads to nowhere good. Just like in love, you hesitate to let go, hoping something magical happens before you reach your stop. Itโs that stubborn hope that keeps you holding on to someone who clearly isnโt holding on to you.
Letโs be realโlahat tayo marupok. Whether itโs choosing a wrong jeepney ride or choosing the wrong person to stay with, we cling to the illusion of possibility. Even though you know youโre on the wrong ride, youโll still stay anyway. Why? Kasi you keep telling yourself, โPuwede namang bumaba kapag gusto ko na,โ even as our fingers grow numb for holding on too long.
We keep riding, kahit traffic pa, kahit alam nating mas mahihirapan tayo kapag hindi pa tayo bumaba. Kasi ganun tayo eh, we hope for a change in the route weโre going, a detour that will take us somewhere better. Just like how we keep hoping that maybe, just maybe, something will change in their mind and stay. Truth is, not everyone who rides with you will stay until the end. People leave; they always do. And the jeepney moves on, whether youโre ready or not.
Letting go is never easy. Not because itโs the wrong stop, but because weโre not ready to let go. Itโs about releasing the person you imagined would ride beside you. We tell ourselves that staying a little longer wonโt hurt, that the destination is near. But to face reality, napapalayo lang tayo sa dapat nating mapuntahan. The pain of letting go stings, but staying stuck will leave you with an eternal heartache. It takes courage to call out, โPara poโ, and step off. But sometimes, thatโs the only way to find the right rideโthe one that will take you home.
In this jeepney ride called life, minsan kailangan mo talaga bumitaw kahit gusto mo pang manatili. Itโs okay to shout โPara po!โ. Itโs okay to choose yourself. Because nothing changes if nothing changes.

The Sparkโจ, together with the SLCV community, joins the commemoration of the life and legacy of all saints. Let us learn and reflect on their sacrifices and unparalleled faith that shape and strengthen our Christianity and all values that emanate from it.
November 1 is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church dedicated to the saints who have attained heaven (Catholic Online, 2022). Pope Boniface IV formally established All Saints' Day on May 13, 609 AD, when he dedicated the Pantheon in Rome to the Virgin Mary and all Martyrs. It should not be confused with All Souls' Day which is observed on November 2, since it is devoted to those who have died and not yet reached heaven.
May this day reminds us of our unparalleled faith and love of God.
May we never forget the souls of the martyrs and the legacies they lived in.
Have a blessed All Saints' Day, Louisians.โ๏ธ
