Earlier today, July 10, 2026, the Center for Student Leadership and Development (CSLD) conducted an Echo Seminar for the officers of the University Student Government Organizations at the University Cafeteria.

In line with CHED Memorandum No. 15, series of 2026, the seminar shared the key learnings and best practices gained by Urdaneta City University during the 2026 Student Leaders Conference: ACHIEVE for Health and Well-being Awards and Higher Education Conference on Gender Issues (HECGI), held on June 30, 2026, at The Monarch Hotel, Calasiao, Pangasinan.

The seminar began with Mr. Mark Harris G. Rubang, who led the information dissemination on CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 63 and CMO No. 09. This was followed by Mr. John Paul Laguanโ€™s discussion on the Anti-Hazing Act, HIV and AIDS awareness, and the Safe Spaces Act.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nhorly U. Domenden shared important announcements and words of encouragement for the student leaders, reminding them of their vital role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and student-centered university community.

The Echo Seminar focused on promoting health and well-being, building safe and secure campus communities, advancing gender equality and inclusive campuses, and strengthening quality Student Affairs and Services in higher education.

Through this initiative, UCU student leaders were equipped with relevant knowledge and practical strategies that they can apply within their respective organizations. Together, may we continue to build a safe, healthy, inclusive, and student-centered university community.

Urdaneta City University proudly participated in the 2026 Student Leaders Conference: ACHIEVE for Health and Well-being Awards and Higher Education Conference on Gender Issues (HECGI) held on June 30, 2026, at The Monarch Hotel, Calasiao, Pangasinan. The conference was spearheaded by the CHED Regional Office I - Ilocos Region, bringing together student leaders, Student Affairs and Services (SAS) Coordinators, and higher education stakeholders across the region to promote leadership, health and well-being, gender responsiveness, and quality student affairs and services.

The conference commenced with the presentation of the activity's objectives and rationale by Dr. Myrelle Faith D. Mina, Education Supervisor II of CHED Regional Office I. This was followed by the Welcome Message and the introduction of the keynote speaker by Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CESO III, Director IV of CHED Regional Office I.

The keynote address was delivered by Assistant Secretary Ma. Victoria C. Sorne, Deputy Executive Director for Administration of the Dangerous Drugs Board. Her message emphasized the importance of strengthening youth leadership in advancing the Philippine Anti-Illegal Drugs Strategy (PADS). She highlighted that effective leadership begins with understanding before judging, inspiring student leaders, Student Affairs and Services (SAS) Coordinators, and focal personnel to become compassionate, responsible, and transformative leaders in their respective institutions.

The ACHIEVE for Health and Well-being Awards ceremony was graced by Dr. Danilo B. Bose, Chief Education Program Specialist of CHED Regional Office I. The conference also featured a series of thematic sessions focusing on:
โ€ข Promoting health and well-being in higher education;
โ€ข Building safe and secure campus communities;
โ€ข Advancing gender equality and fostering inclusive campuses; and
โ€ข Institutionalizing quality Student Affairs and Services in higher education.

Representing Urdaneta City University, Mr. Laguan, an officer of the University Student Council, actively participated in the conference and proudly emerged as one of the Top 6 performers in the on-the-spot 10-item quiz on the Safe Spaces Act, earning recognition and receiving tokens from CHED Regional Office I and its National Government Agency (NGA) partners.

The conference concluded with the Closing Message delivered by Dr. Ricky Cera, Supervising Administrative Officer of CHED Regional Office I. It was truly a meaningful gathering that equipped student leaders with valuable knowledge, strengthened their commitment to service, and reinforced the values of leadership, inclusivity, and well-being.

As participants, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Urdaneta City University Administration for their unwavering support and for providing us with the opportunity to participate in this significant conference. Your continued commitment to empowering student leaders through meaningful learning experiences inspires us to become more dedicated, socially responsible, and service-oriented leaders.
