We’re incredibly proud of Nard Bryan Valdez, the captain of our varsity chess team, for his outstanding performance at the RCA Contracting and Trading Regional Chess Tournament held on October 20, 2024, at Robinsons Place Tuguegarao! Among more than 150 regional participants, Nard battled his way through tough matches using the Swiss system format to secure a well-deserved 5th runner-up finish. His dedication, smart tactics, and passion for the game were on full display in every round, showing exactly why he’s the one leading our team.

As our team captain, Nard’s commitment extends far beyond the chessboard—he continues to inspire and motivate us all to reach for our best. His remarkable achievement at this tournament isn’t just a reflection of his own hard work, but also a testament to the leadership and determination that make him a true role model. We’re confident this is just the beginning of many more accomplishments to come.

Yesterday, October 20, 2024, chess enthusiasts from across Region 2 gathered at Robinsons Place Tuguegarao for the "RCA Contracting and Trading Regional Chess Tournament." It was a day filled with strategic battles and friendly competition in the open non-master division, organized by the dedicated Linar S. Agustin, and exclusively for the brave souls of our region.

A heartfelt thank you to the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao for sponsoring us to this event and giving local players a chance to shine. We’re especially grateful to Sir Allan Baccay, our always supportive coach who inspires us to keep pushing forward, and to Ma’am Mirelle Caronan, the USL sports Director, whose constant encouragement made the tournament a reality.

Kudos to our fearless participants who stepped up to the challenge naming—
Nard Bryan Valdez,
John Lester Copuyoc,
Sarah Joy Soriano,
Ullyses Stephen Baccay, and
Leomhar Guillermo.

You brought not just skill to the board, but a whole lot of heart, proving that chess is more than just a game of moves—it's a test of courage, focus, and determination.

Still a job well done to everyone who participated in our chess varsity tryouts. We want to recognize the incredible effort and determination everyone showed during our chess varsity tryouts. It’s amazing to see such passion for the game! Remember, each move you make helps you grow. If you didn’t make the team this year, don’t lose heart—this is just the start of your journey.
