PECS Joins Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill to Strengthen Disaster Preparedness

Peñablanca, Cagayan | June 18, 2026 – Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to safety and disaster preparedness, Peñablanca East Central School (PECS) actively participated in the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) held at exactly 9:00 a.m. on June 18, 2026.

The nationwide activity was conducted in support of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Program, aiming to strengthen the preparedness of learners, teachers, school personnel, and stakeholders in responding effectively during earthquake emergencies.

Upon the sounding of the emergency signal, initiated by the DRRM Coordinator, Ma’am Perpetua Sabino, learners and school personnel promptly performed the standard “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure before proceeding to the designated evacuation areas in an orderly and disciplined manner. The drill showcased the school’s readiness, coordination, and adherence to established emergency protocols, ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone on campus.

The successful conduct of the drill reflected the collective commitment of the PECS community to fostering a culture of resilience, preparedness, and safety. Through regular participation in disaster preparedness activities such as the NSED, the school continues to equip its learners and personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond calmly and effectively during emergencies.

Ready, Set, Learn!

NEWS WEEK || PECS Concludes Successful Opening Block Week, Strengthening Readiness and Learner Success

Penablanca East Central School successfully concluded its four-day Opening Block Week from June 8–11, 2026, marking a meaningful and productive start to the new school year. The week-long activity was designed to prepare learners academically, socially, emotionally, and physically for the transition into the instructional block.

Guided by the able leadership of School Principal Ma’am Albina G. Daquioag, teachers implemented a comprehensive set of activities that promoted learner readiness, safety, well-being, and engagement. The Opening Block provided opportunities for both learners and parents to become familiar with school policies, classroom expectations, and the learning environment.

The first day focused on welcoming learners through classroom orientations, action songs, learner information gathering, values formation activities, and the establishment of classroom rules and agreements. Learners also participated in interest inventories, learning style surveys, and school safety orientations that allowed teachers to better understand their needs, strengths, and interests.

On the second day, learners attended important orientations on child protection, anti-bullying policies, school safety, health and nutrition programs, disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), and mental health and wellness. These sessions emphasized the school’s commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

The third day centered on assessment and diagnostics. Learners underwent Phil-IRI, numeracy assessments, RMA pretests, and subject-based diagnostic tests in English, Filipino, Science, Mathematics, Araling Panlipunan, Edukasyong Pantahanan at Pangkabuhayan (EPP), and GMRC. The results will serve as valuable baseline data for teachers in planning responsive and differentiated instruction throughout the school year.

The final day highlighted parent and community engagement through classroom and school policy orientations, academic discussions, attendance policies, assessment systems, and the conduct of the SPTA General Assembly. Parents expressed their support and commitment to the school’s improvement initiatives and learner development programs.

As the Opening Block Week came to a close, learners demonstrated enthusiasm, active participation, and readiness to embark on a new academic journey. The activities not only equipped them with essential knowledge and skills but also fostered confidence, responsibility, and a sense of belonging within the school community.

The successful implementation of the Opening Block reflects PECS’ continuous dedication to ensuring that every learner begins the school year prepared, supported, and inspired to achieve success. CLMD Chief Cabasag Lauds PECS for Exemplary School Readiness and Learner-Centered Initiatives

PEÑABLANCA, Cagayan – Peñablanca East Central School was privileged to welcome CLMD Chief Sir Octavio V. Cabasag during his monitoring visit as part of the Department of Education’s efforts to ensure the effective implementation of the Opening Block Week for School Year 2026–2027.

The monitoring activity focused on assessing the school’s readiness, the implementation of DepEd Order No. 009, s. 2026, and the conduct of activities under the Opening Block, Instructional Block, and End-of-Term Block. Upon his arrival, Sir Octave was warmly received by School Principal Ma’am Albina G. Daquioag together with the teaching and non-teaching personnel of the school.

During the visit, Sir Octave interviewed School Principal Ma’am Albina G. Daquioag and selected teachers to gain insights into the school’s preparations and understanding of the new school calendar framework. Among those interviewed was Ma’am Jane L Aquino who confidently articulated the objectives and significance of the Opening Block Week. She explained that the Opening Block serves as a vital period for learner orientation, classroom familiarization, learner profiling, baseline assessments, and the establishment of a positive learning environment before the start of regular classroom instruction.

Ma’am Aquino further discussed the advantages of the Instructional Block, emphasizing that it provides uninterrupted learning time that allows teachers to focus on delivering lessons and helping learners achieve the intended learning competencies. She also elaborated on the benefits of the End-of-Term Block, which provides opportunities for assessment, remediation, intervention, enrichment activities, and professional development for teachers. She likewise acknowledged possible challenges, such as adjustment periods for teachers, learners, and parents, but emphasized that these can be effectively addressed through proper planning, collaboration, and continuous stakeholder engagement.

Sir Octave, commended the responses provided during the interview and expressed appreciation for the school’s preparedness and commitment to quality education. He recognized the dedication of the school leadership and personnel in ensuring that all programs and activities are aligned with the goals of the Department of Education.

The monitoring visit further highlighted the readiness of Peñablanca East Central School under the able leadership of the School Principal Ma’am Albina G. Daquioag. Peñablanca, Cagayan – In line with the Department of Education’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and successful opening of classes, Sir Cristopher R. Palattao, from the Office of the Curriculum Implementation Division, together with Ma’am Jeann T. Carinugan, PDO-YPF, conducted a monitoring visit today at Penablanca East Central School to assess the readiness of classrooms, teachers, and learners for the opening of School Year 2026–2027.

During the visit, the monitoring team inspected the preparedness of learning environments, classroom facilities, instructional materials, and school safety measures. They also checked the availability of essential resources and observed the overall condition of the school to ensure that learners would have a safe, welcoming, and conducive environment for learning.

The monitoring team noted that the school’s readiness was evident through the well-prepared classrooms, organized learning materials, and systematic implementation of school opening activities. This preparedness reflects the able leadership and dedication of School Principal, Ma’am Albina G. A Joyful and Heartwarming Opening of Classes at PECS || 06/08

The opening of classes on June 8, 2026, at Peñablanca East Central School was filled with joy, excitement, and optimism as learners, parents, teachers, and stakeholders gathered to begin another promising school year.

The school community was blessed by the generosity of Batch ’88 of St. Louis College of Tuguegarao – Section F, through Sir Jesus Jonathan I. Lingan, who extended financial support to the school. Their contribution serves as a testament to their commitment to supporting education and helping create a better learning environment for every learner.

Adding warmth to the first day of school, the SK Group of Aggugaddan, lead by the SK. Chairman Marlon Taguba Buena, generously provided early morning coffee and bread for learners and parents. This thoughtful gesture was warmly received and instantly created a welcoming and festive atmosphere within the school grounds.

The excitement among the learners was evident as they arrived early, eager to reunite with friends, meet their teachers, and begin a new academic journey. Their cheerful smiles and enthusiastic conversations reflected their anticipation and happiness on the first day of classes. Parents, likewise, expressed their appreciation and delight upon receiving the warm welcome.
