TUBOD, LANAO DEL NORTE — The Tubod Cultural Dance Workshop was organized by Milward Mansueto, head of Arangkada Tubod Tourism, on February 5 and 11, 2026, at TBCC, in an attempt to empower the youth in terms of cultural awareness and responsible cultural expression.
The professionalism of a seven-year-old dance artiste company, LANDAP (LANORTE Dance Artists for Peace), played also a crucial role in the workshop, which was headed by Romeo J. Denapo Jr. (President of LANDAP) and Rambee C. Bantulan (Vice President of LANDAP). The official choreographers and lecturers inculcated essential information among the participants. And in order to regulate the workshop, SINAG adviser Glenn Royd Carrillo, facilitated the sessions and rehearsals of the dancers to ensure that the workshop ran smoothly.
The cultural performers and the student participants of this workshop consisted of cultural performers and SINAG, TCDC, and students of Tubod College who are not part of these institutions, offering more students an opportunity to take part in cultural dance teaching. Along with the practical work in the field of dance training, the meaningful discussions about the three main topics—Respectful Performance, Cultural Responsibility, and Historical Consciousness—were also involved in the activity.
Such lectures conveyed the importance of knowing the origins and meaning of cultural dances prior to dancing them, particularly when presented before a general audience. To do the dance aspect, they were trained on the Sagayan dance, which is a traditional dance and is characterized by strong movements and warrior-like performance. With cultural accuracy, discipline, and respect for the historical background, the choreographers made sure that the routine was learned correctly. The routine was taught with cultural accuracy, discipline, and respect for its historical background.
The organizers expressed that the workshop is not only meant to improve dance skills but also to encourage young performers to become more culturally aware and responsible in representing indigenous traditions.
The Tubod Cultural Dance Workshop served as both an educational and cultural experience, reminding students that cultural dance is not merely a performance—but a reflection of identity, history, and heritage.
