Webinar for a Cause para kay Jerry B. Grácio

May mga pagkakataong ang panitikan ay hindi lang tungkol sa mga kuwentong binabasa at isinusulat natin. Minsan, nagiging paraan din ito para mag-abot ng tulong sa kapwa manunulat.

Ngayong Agosto 31, 2026, samahan ang Valenzuela Arts and Literary Society (VALS) sa isang Webinar for a Cause para kay Sir Jerry Gracio, kasama sina Jonathan Balsamo, German Gervacio, at Eros Atalia, para sa isang hapon ng kuwentuhan at talakayan tungkol sa panitikan at kasaysayan. Magbibigay naman ng closing remarks si Joselito Delos Reyes. Katuwang din ng VALS sa pag-oorganisa ng webinar si Beverly Wico Siy.

Malapit kay Sir Jerry ang kasaysayan ng VALS. Sa nakalipas na walong taon, ilang ulit siyang naging speaker at panelist ng Valenzuela Writers’ Workshop, at isa rin siya sa mga manunulat at cultural workers na tumulong magbigay-daan sa pagsisimula at pagpapatuloy ng palihan. Higit sa pagiging panauhin sa aming mga programa, naging mentor siya sa maraming batang manunulat at kasapi ng VALS.

Kaya sa pagkakataong ito, kami naman ang nais na makapagbalik.

Si RUTH ELYNIA S. MABANGLO ay hindi lamang isang makatang nagkamit ng maraming gantimpala kundi isa ring mandudula, mananaysay, mamamahayag at g**o.

Ipinanganak noong Marso 30, 1949, sa Maynila, siya ay isang retiradong propesor sa Unibersidad ng Hawaii sa Manoa at naging tagapag-ugnay para sa Programang Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas.

Nagkamit siya ng Filipino degree mula sa University of the East, master's degree sa wikang Filipino at panitikan mula sa Philippine Normal College, at doctorate sa Filipino mula sa Manuel L. Quezon University.

Bukod sa pagtuturo sa University of the East, Manuel L. Quezon University, Philippine Normal College, at De La Salle University, siya ay naging isang mamamahayag sa Taliba at Abante.

Ilan sa kaniyang mga libro/akda ay Mga Liham ni Pinay, Daigdig sa Pagitan at Iba Pang Dula, Anyaya ng Imperyalista, at Kung Di Man: Mga Tula ng Pag-ibig.

Tampok sa kaniyang mga akda ang danas at talino ng kababaihan, sinusuri at binabaklas ng kaniyang mga akda ang gampanin ng babae sa pagbuo ng isang lipunan na may dangal, ligaya, at pantay na karapaatan.

RODOLFO "Jun" SABAYTON Jr. (pronouns: he/him) is an artist, filmmaker, and cultural worker. He`s an alumni of the Mowelfund Film Institute, he has worked on over 25 feature films and numerous shorts since 1998. He was awarded the prestigious Gawad Urian as Best Production Designer for his work on “Ebolusyon ng Isang Pamilyang Pilipino” (2004) directed by Lav Diaz. He also works in television and streaming content as a producer, writer, director and actor.

Sabayton is a member of several artist collectives and non-government organizations, he programmed film screenings/workshops and other grassroots initiatives developing cultural literacy in major regions across the Philippines.

As a curator, he is an advocate for regional artists and continues to organize group shows in artist-run spaces.

He has appeared in numerous commercials (TVCs), online and television shows, known for blending satire, charisma, and relatability in both comedic and serious roles.

In the digital space, Sabayton engages audiences as a content creator and Key Opinion Leader (KOL), using humor and social insight to connect with broad audiences. As a trusted brand endorser and ambassador, he brings creativity, credibility, authenticity, cultural relevance and meaningful storytelling to campaigns that resonate with diverse Filipino communities both online and offline.

Si JERRY GRACIO ay isang premyadong makata at manunulat sa telebisyon at pelikula. Ipinanganak siya sa Tondo, Maynila at nanirahan noong kanyang kabataan sa Samar.

Nag-aral siya ng Malikhaing Pagsulat sa UP Diliman. Naging aktibong kasapi rin siya ng mga samahang pansining at kultura gaya ng Museo Valenzuela Foundation, Inc. Harayang Polo-The Valenzuela Arts Collective, Oragon Poets Circle, Linangan sa Imahen, Retorika at Anyo (LIRA), at Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL).

Tondo is set to be explored through a different lens as The Heritage Collective and Tondo Writers Workshop launch “Ang Tondo man, may literary tour din!”, a heritage walk that highlights the district’s rich literary history alongside its cultural landmarks.

Scheduled on August 23, the half-day tour invites participants to rediscover Tondo not only as one of Manila’s oldest communities but also as a place immortalized in novels, poems, essays, and other literary works by Filipino writers across different generations.

Rather than focusing solely on historical buildings and streets, the guided walk will feature selected readings from literary texts that portray Tondo from diverse perspectives. Organizers said the tour aims to show how literature and heritage intersect in shaping the identity of a place.

The organizers emphasized that the activity is not intended to present a single or definitive image of Tondo. Instead, participants will be encouraged to appreciate the district through the varying interpretations of writers while connecting these narratives to the area’s history and community heritage.

The tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Bonifacio Monument in front of Tutuban Center Mall along Recto Avenue and will conclude at Liberty Bakery in Tondo. Participants are advised to arrange their transportation accordingly, as the starting and ending points are different.

The walking tour will be conducted in Taglish (Filipino and English) and will proceed rain or shine, except in the event of a severe weather warning. Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes suitable for outdoor conditions.

Registration costs ₱1,200 per person, which includes the guided heritage tour and light snacks.

Aba!! Tondo Na 'Tooooooo!!!

Ang 1st Tondo Writers Workshop ay gaganapin sa Chiang Kai Shek Faculty of Business, Arts, and Sciences sa Narra Street, Tondo, Manila sa darating na ika-22 ng Agosto, taong kasalukuyan.

Tara na at ating itampok ang kahalagahan ng pagsusulat at panitikan bilang salamin ng ating sarili, komunidad, at bayan. Kami ay naniniwala na ang palihan ay mahalaga at napapanahon upang maitala at maikuwento ang danas ng mga taga-Tondo.

Ano, magpapahuli ka ba? Ano ang kuwentong Tondo mo? Sakay na!
