All set for the total lunar eclipse! 🔭🌕

Watch out, MCSians! 👀

On the evening of March 3, 2026, a spectacular Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible in the Philippines — including right here in Manila!

During this event, the Moon will appear reddish or copper-colored, often called a “Blood Moon.” This happens when the Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, blocking sunlight.

What to expect (Philippine Standard Time):
5:58 PM – Moonrise (already partially eclipsed)
7:04 PM – Total eclipse begins
7:34 PM – Maximum eclipse
8:03 PM – Totality ends
9:17 PM – Partial eclipse ends

According to PAGASA, the total phase will last for almost 1 hour, and it is completely safe to watch with the naked eye — no special glasses needed!

For the best view in Tondo, find a spot with a clear view of the eastern horizon and minimal building obstruction. If the skies are clear, you’ll see the Moon rise already “bitten” by Earth’s shadow — a rare and beautiful sight!

This kind of eclipse won’t happen again for a few years, so don’t miss this chance to witness one of nature’s most breathtaking celestial events. 🌌

A Celestial Journey to Remember ✨

Our Grade 7 MCSians explored the beauty of the cosmos during an unforgettable Astronight 2026 hosted by the Science Department at the Manila Cathedral School Astronomical Observatory. Under the vast expanse of the night sky, students gazed in awe as they observed the magnificent Jupiter and its Galilean moons and the glowing waxing gibbous Moon through MCS’ two powerful in-house telescopes.

It was truly a night of wonder, discovery, and learning—reminding our young astronomers of the beauty, mystery, and vastness of the universe.
