TNHS’ DAO: THE HERITAGE TREE OF GENERATIONS
"A tree that demystifies the history and offers a blazing oasis to every living soul." That is how people of Tinawagan describe the Dao tree (Dracontamelon dao). Located in the heart of Tinawagan National High School, this beautiful tree is one of the species included in the National List of Threatened Philippine Plants in 2017 by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
This fortified huge tree stands with excellent edge among others, not only in the school but in the entire community. Generally, trees offer outstanding benefits to the biomes near it and Dao is never an exemption. First, its tremendous small leaves give off more oxygen significant to the continuity of life of both man and animals. Second, its large, strong trunks and branches offer a peaceful dwelling place for aerial plants and habitat for birds. Third, it withstands great force or pressure against typhoons. Therefore, it protects the land. Finally, the shade it provides is enough to enliven a weary soul.
This Dao tree is a living witness to the lives of people in Tinawagan. In its 394 years of existence, it becomes a part of history and pride of many generations of the community. It is truly a lasting legacy and an environmental heritage that Tinawagan National High School can truly be proud of!
