With the goal of advancing their commitment to quality education through regional collaboration and the strengthening of internal quality mechanisms, presidents and leaders from various State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Luzon and the National Capital Region convened today, July 16, 2026, for the Luzon SUC Presidentsโ€™ Learning Session. The event, hosted by the Philippine Normal University (PNU), was organized by the ASEAN University Network (AUN), ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN), Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization-Regional Institute for Higher Education Development (SEAMEO-RIHED), and the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP).

Opening the program was PNU President Dr. Bert J. Tuga. In his welcome remarks, he expounded on how quality in higher learning is built on partnership and collaboration. Shortly after, Dr. Milabel E. Ho, Executive Director of AACCUP and President of AQAN, provided participants with a thorough elaboration of the gatheringโ€™s rationale and purpose.

A major highlight of the event was a presentation by Prof. Dr. Dawisa Sritanyarat, Deputy Executive Director of AUN-QA, who shared a comprehensive overview of IQA Advance.

Following this, Dr. Ma. Agnes P. Nuestro, President of Cavite State University (CvSU), shared meaningful insights regarding her institutionโ€™s experience with quality assurance-related activities. Through an audiovisual presentation, Dr. Nuestro showcased the accomplishments and best practices of CvSU.

Dr. Tuga then returned to the podium to facilitate an open forum, where guest experts, alongside PASUC and AACCUP officials, addressed the queries of the SUC presidents. During this time, several participants took the opportunity to share their own institutions' best practices and processes with the plenary.

After a cultural interlude by the PNU Kislap Sining Dance Troupe, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of both the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) and Batangas State University - The National Engineering University, delivered a strong statement of support, affirming the SUCs' collective dedication to adhering to the highest standards of quality. Formally concluding the learning session was Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III, President of Bicol University, who delivered the closing remarks.

Ultimately, the collaborative session reinforced a unified vision among the region's academic leaders: that elevating the standards of Philippine higher education requires continuous cross-border partnership, the active sharing of best practices, and a steadfast commitment to world-class quality assurance.
