We are beyond proud to announce that our Learners with Disabilities (LWDs) emerged as 1ST PLACE WINNERS in the Video Editing Contest during the first-ever I-SNED Expo in the history of Special Needs Education, held at Tanauan North Central School.

Their winning entry showcased exceptional creativity, teamwork, and digital competence, highlighting skills in ethical web browsing, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and video editing—while promoting accessibility, inclusivity, and universal design.

As 1st Place winners, they will proudly represent the Division of Tanauan at the Regional Festival of Talents in Laguna on March 18–20, 2026.

This historic victory proves that innovation knows no barriers and that with the right opportunities, every learner can excel.

In line with Presidential Proclamation No. 597, s. 2024, and DepEd Memorandum No. 22, s. 2024, Bernardo Lirio Memorial National High School proudly joins the nation in celebrating the 47th National Disability Rights Week from July 17 to 23, 2025, with the theme: 'Innovation for Inclusion: Building Inclusive Communities Together.'

Biography of Louis Braille and Invention of the Braille Alphabet

Louis Braille (1809–1852) was born in France. At the age of three, he wounded his right eye with a cobbler's tool while playing in his father's workshop. No medical knowledge could save his eyesight at that time. Louis's left eye became inflamed, apparently due to subsequent sympathetic ophthalmia, and he eventually lost the sight in that eye. At the age of five, Louis Braille was completely blind. He is considered to be the inventor of a writing system by touch that bears his name, the Braille system. This revolutionary system has allowed blind people to access written culture, and it can therefore be considered a major advance in the quality of life for the blind. The immediate precursor of the invention of the Braille system was the alphabet created by Charles Barbier de la Serre (1767–1841) who created a language by touch designed for military and secret use. Louis Braille modified this alphabet into the Braille alphabet, which is practically the same one that is currently used. It required time to be recognized and to be implemented as a reading and writing method for blind people throughout the world. In 1950, UNESCO effectively universalized the Braille alphabet, and in 2005 it recognized Braille system as a “vital language of communication, as legitimate as all other languages in the world.”

A perfect time for us all to step back, raise awareness for inclusivity, and allow space for discussions that empower people with disabilities and their families.

This week is a time for us to unite, reflect on the challenges, rejoice in the successes, and push for a society that must value everyone, no matter their ability.

Through the Parents-Learners Dialogue event, parents and learners were able to share their experiences, ask questions, and engage in a fascinating exchange of ideas.

A special thank you to our esteemed speaker, Mrs. Mary Ann Enciso, SPET III, whose expertise and compassion shed light on these critical topics, helping us all better understand the nuances of intellectual disability and how we can support the growth and development of those affected.

Together, we will continue to work towards a brighter, more equitable future where everyone is given the opportunity to thrive.
