Kilig, bongga, sari-sari store, comfort roomโwe have been hearing recently of what words from the Philippines are now recorded in the Oxford English Dictionary. This talk will focus on the how and why of these new additions. How does the documentation of Philippine English words in a historical dictionary such as the OED fit within the wider context of Philippine lexicography? Why does Philippine English vocabulary need to be recorded in dictionaries, and how can it contribute to the decolonization of English in the Philippines?
