โ€œGihalaran sa dugo ug sakrispisyo sa kabayanihon ang kagawasan nga atong natagamtam karon, ikaw, unsa ang andam โ€˜mong itagana sa pagpanalipod niini?โ€ Beneath the blazing morning sun, these words framed the commemoration of Talisay City College (TCC), in partnership with the City Government of Talisay, as they marked the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence with a ceremony rich in tradition, symbolism, and patriotic fervor.

The event was graced by members of the Talisay Sugbo Masonic Lodge 422, City Councilor Hon. Socrates Fernandez, uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, and Bureau of Fire Protection, alongside TCC administrators led by College President Dr. Richel N. Bacaltos, faculty, NTS personnel, and students from the BSEd Social Studies and BA Political Science programs.

The program opened with an interfaith prayer led by Ms. Aliah Sultan Ranie, Ms. Josephine Piape, Ms. Nikki Nacario, and Ms. Kiara Destacamento, followed by an inspiring welcome address from Hon. Grace Sardido, Governor of the TCC Political Science Society.

A highlight of the ceremony was the honor march of the Philippine Flag, solemnly borne by College President Dr. Richel N. Bacaltos before being hoisted by the PNPโ€“Talisay personnel. The flag-raising was accompanied by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the recitation of the Panunumpa sa Katapatan ng Watawat. This was followed by a stirring Pagpupugay sa Watawat delivered by Atty. John Jigo Dacua of the Talisay Sugbo Masonic Lodge 422.

The wreath-laying rites added depth to the commemoration, with offerings from the Masonic Lodge led by Worshipful Master Carlos Pono Cavada II and from the TCC community led by College President Dr. Richel N. Bacaltos. Dignitaries, guests, and members of the college community also joined in a symbolic flower offering.

The cultural segment featured a tribute performance by the TCC Chorale under the baton of Sir Jarre Laborte, followed by an inspirational message from Former Mayor and now City Councilor Hon. Socrates Fernandez, who emphasized the enduring importance of independence. His words were echoed by Ms. Leny Jane Sabordo, SSC President-elect, who issued a call to action, urging the audience to honor the past, confront the present, and embrace courage for the future.

The program concluded with a dynamic performance by Sir Kennedy Navarraโ€™s Balud Dance Company, leaving the audience with a sense of pride and renewed commitment to the nationโ€™s ideals.

The celebration was jointly organized by the Social & Behavioral Sciences Department and the Cultural Affairs Office, with strong support from the TCC Administration, Utilities, and Maintenance Office. The event was hosted by Mr. Ralph Eufranz Cane of the College of Teacher Education.
