EARTH WALK, RUN, AND JAM | Between the athletic events, the stage became a platform for advocacy, featuring inspiring messages from Assistant City Administrator Ismael Penado, JCI Talisay Executive VP Atty. Ernalin Constiniano, SP Member Erlou Penado, and CIER Director Rhoderick Samonte.

In a symbolic display of unity, these leaders joined students, runners, and city officials in signing the Commitment Wall, emphasizing that collective grassroots actions are vital to generating a massive positive impact for the planet.

As evening fell, the energy shifted to the Earth Jam, a showcase of local artistry and culture. The crowd was treated to performances by talented CHMSU students and local artists, including Chad Andrino, Trisha Hellera, Alni Sanz, Francheska Cape, and the CHMSUnata.

The program also highlighted the intersection of sustainability and style, featuring the creative designs of CHMSU BSIT Fashion and Apparel students, followed by a vibrant community dance led by Bachelor of Physical Education students.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony honoring the top finishers in the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s 3K and 5K categories. Throughout the night, participants and spectators enjoyed complimentary food and beverages provided by the Office of Mayor Rowena Lopez-Lizares and the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

This successful celebration was the result of a robust collaboration between the City of Talisay, CHMSU, JCI Talisay, the RCE on Education for Sustainable Development, and XFM Bacolod. The production was spearheaded by the Center for Internationalization and External Relations, supported by dedicated student volunteers from the Event Management Team.

The summer heat in the Philippines can be dangerous, so it is important to understand the heat index and how it affects your body. High heat levels can cause serious health issues like heat exhaustion or heat stroke if you stay under the sun for too long.

Check out the dos and donts to keep yourself in top shape. Make sure to check the official PAGASA website or social media pages daily for the latest heat index updates. Staying informed about the local forecast for the Negros Island Region will help you plan your day safely and protect yourself and your family from the intense heat. Stay hydrated and stay cool, CHMSUans!

FREECYCLE DAY | Talisaynons found new homes for pre-loved items donated by CHMSUans during the FreeCycle Day, held at the Talisay City Public Plaza on the morning of April 24, 2026.

The event was held in celebration of Earth Month 2026. From senior citizens and PWDs to excited children and city employees, residents from all walks of life participated in the initiative.

The "free store" featured a diverse array of goodsโ€”including clothing, footwear, electronics, gadgets, kitchenware, and toysโ€”all ready to be reused rather than relegated to a landfill.

The activity was facilitated by the Center for Internationalization and External Relations, supported by student volunteers from the Event Management Team and the CHMSU 3Zero Club.

From April 20 to 23, 2024, CHMSU students, faculty, and staff donated items from their homes that were no longer in use, giving these belongings a second life.

FreeCycle Day was made possible through the collaboration of CHMSU, the City of Talisay, JCI Talisay, the RCE on Education for Sustainable Development, and XFM Bacolod.

Did you know? ๐ŸŒ When food waste goes to landfills, it decomposes without oxygen and releases methane, a potent greenhouse gas that worsens climate change. ๐ŸŒก๏ธ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ

Composting uses oxygen, preventing methane while turning waste into nutrient-rich soil. ๐ŸŽโ™ป๏ธ It also improves soilโ€™s water retention and drought resistance. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’ง If widely adopted, composting can reduce emissions and support environmental sustainability. ๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒปโœจ
