On September 12, 2025, the Agroforestry students of Davao del Norte State College, Talaingod Campus, held an educational field tour at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Mabini Unit. Accompanied by their faculty mentors; Mr. Rowel C. Bartolome, Ms. Rhegyn D. Tocmo, and Mr. Alvert G. Monera; and warmly welcomed by the host faculty members, Forester Leo E. Ong; Chairperson of the Forestry Department, For. Christopher Famor, Dr. Dernie T. Olguera; Chairperson of the Agriculture Department and Mr. Ritsmond Zemry P. Ubod. The students engaged in a meaningful experience that enriched their knowledge and skills beyond the four walls of the classroom.
The activities included plant identification and classification in relation to Agroforestry Taxonomy, practical applications of mapping and surveying tools, observations on crop production techniques, and strategies for Integrated Pest Management. These sessions allowed the students to see firsthand the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and how theories in textbooks are applied in real settings. Through the guidance of experts, they gained a deeper understanding of land assessment, crop care, and environmental stewardship.
The highlight of the visit was the tour of USEPโs Laboratories, Nursery, Ecological Park and Arboretum, which showcased why the university is recognized among the leading institutions in Agriculture and Related Sciences. These facilities allowed the students to witness innovative practices firsthand and immerse themselves in a living classroom where theories came alive. Overall, the field tour proved both educational and enjoyable, emphasizing the importance of field experiences in connecting theory with practice and in honing the studentsโ skills for their future careers.
