Empowering Future Entrepreneurs: College of Business and Management (CBM), BS Entrepreneurship Program, CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI) Tagum Hosts Seminar on Consumer Laws of the Philippines
May 22, 2025 — In a significant step toward cultivating ethical and informed entrepreneurs, the College of Business and Management, Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship (BSE) program of CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc. (CMDI) Tagum Campus, successfully conducted a seminar on the Consumer Laws of the Philippines, attended by all 3rd year BS Entrepreneurship students and faculty members.
The seminar aimed to enhance students’ awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities, while also instilling the values of ethical and fair business practices—essential foundations as they prepare to implement their own business ventures in the near future.
The event was made possible through the leadership and coordination of Ricardo R. Ongob Jr., MBA, Program Coordinator for BS Entrepreneurship, who has continuously advocated for experiential learning opportunities that bridge classroom knowledge and real-world application.
Serving as the resource speaker was Mr. Michael Tom Tulin, a representative from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Tagum. Mr. Tulin gave a comprehensive presentation on key consumer protection laws, particularly the Consumer Act of the Philippines (RA 7394). He discussed critical topics such as product standards, warranties, deceptive practices, and consumer rights and redress mechanisms—information that every aspiring entrepreneur must understand.
“Entrepreneurs must not only focus on profit but also on their duty to uphold consumer welfare. Understanding the law is the first step in building a sustainable and responsible business,” Mr. Tulin emphasized.
The seminar was both interactive and informative. Students and faculty actively engaged in the discussions, asking questions and sharing insights on how consumer protection laws influence business practices.
“This seminar is not just an academic requirement it’s a formative experience that shapes responsible future business leaders,” said Mr. Ongob. “By equipping our students with legal knowledge and ethical values, we are preparing them to become entrepreneurs who are both competent and conscientious.”
This initiative reflects CMDI Tagum’s ongoing commitment to producing innovative,values-driven entrepreneurs who are well-prepared to serve their communities with integrity and professionalism.
