This international recognition honors DOST-FNRI former directorsโ remarkable contributions to nutrition science that continue to impact the advancement of research, innovation, and global collaboration in food and nutrition through their stewardship at the DOST-FNRI. These outstanding leaders were nominated by the Nutrition Foundation of the Philippines, the countryโs sole adhering body to the IUNS.
The IUNS Living Legends Awards, given at the ICN, honor individuals aged 80 or above for their notable contributions to their national nutrition body or regional organization. The awards are announced at the IUNS-ICN every four years. Living Legend Awards were first presented at the 20th ICN in Granada, Spain in 2013.
The Fellows of IUNS (FIUNS) are nutrition scientists who in the opinion of the IUNS Council have rendered outstanding service to the cause of nutrition.
Fellows of IUNS are selected based on:
1. Outstanding nutrition research:
- Contributions to the advancement of knowledge
- Scientific publications in reputed international journals
- Academic achievements
2. Development of nutritional science:
- Establishment of nutrition centers
- Human resource development
- National projects
- Formulation of national nutrition policies and programs
3. National recognition in terms of awards/prizes/honors.
4. Contribution to IUNS and other international organizations in the field of nutrition.
The election of Fellows takes place once in 4 years, during the International Congress of Nutrition (ICN).
Truly, Filipino leadership and excellence continue to make a lasting mark in shaping global nutrition and health.
