From repurposed to shared purpose 🤝

On March 11, 2026, the Center for Community Extension, Linkages, and Partnerships, in coordination with the HNU Bookstore, donated the phased-out Kinder uniforms to three local schools as part of our ongoing commitment to community support and sustainability.

The uniforms were distributed to Cambansag Elementary School and Day Care in San Isidro, Tanday Elementary School in Corella, our previous partner community, and Cambanac Primary School and Day Care in Baclayon, our current partner community.

Although these uniforms are no longer of use, we believe they can still serve a meaningful purpose. Instead of disposing of them, we chose to donate them so they may continue to support young learners in these communities.

It is our hope that this simple gesture contributes in some way to the needs of the students and reminds us that resources, when shared, can continue to make a difference.

From presence to partnership 🤝

Last February 19, 2026, Holy Name University held HNU Outreach Day 2026, marking our first engagement activity with our new partner community, Barangay Cambanac, Baclayon. The engagement began with an Opening Mass, followed by a program that formalized the partnership through MOA signing, and featured presentations by the HNU Band, HNU Chorale, Rondalla, and Diwanag.

As a meaningful half-day engagement, the event featured key initiatives: Libreng Konsulta led by the College of Health Sciences with the assistance of the RHU of Baclayon, learning interactions at Cambanac Primary School and Day Care facilitated by the College of Education with the HolyNamian Multipurpose Cooperative (HOMCO), and Pakigsandurot—a home visit immersion conducted by the HNU faculty and administrative personnel.

As our first step into the community, Pakigsandurot emphasized presence before programs—listening to stories and recognizing local strengths. HNU Outreach Day 2026 affirmed that meaningful service is about working with the community, not merely for it.

From HALAD to the heart of the community

What began as a sacred offering during the HALAD Mass last January 12, 2026—a celebration honoring the service and achievements of Holy Name University employees and the opening of a new semester—grew into a meaningful act of communal service in Barangay Cambanac, Baclayon. Through the generosity of HNU students and employees, donations of goods and school supplies were organized in coordination with the Barangay Council of Cambanac.

On January 23, 2026, the distribution was carried out within the community, led by the Center for Community Extension, Linkages, and Partnerships (CELP) alongside 3 student officers. Essential goods were provided to every household, while school supplies were turned over to the primary school. While the assistance may be simple, it was given with sincerity and a genuine desire to serve.

Building stronger communities through purposeful extension

Holy Name University (HNU) conducted the Strengthening Extension Work: A One-day Capacity Building Seminar on Practices and Community Engagement at Buenavista Community College last January 16, 2026. This activity brought together Buenavista Community College President Dr. Analiza L. Chua, along with the institution’s deans and program heads, to strengthen leadership and enhance sustainable community extension initiatives.

The seminar featured HNU President Fr. Ruel F. Lero, SVD, PhD, who shared the foundations, development, and operationalization of community extension, highlighting the vital role of leadership and institutional frameworks. Ms. Mariejoe F. Narca, Head of the HNU Center for Community Extension, Linkages, and Partnerships, facilitated a workshop for the participants to come up with BCC’s community extension agenda and shared HNU’s processes related to the conduct of community extension services. Through a participatory process, extension agenda were identified to guide meaningful and sustainable community engagement for the coming years.

HNU and OP Jindal Global University (JGU) Formalize Partnership through MOU Signing
HNU strengthened its commitment to global academic engagement through the signing of an MOU with JGU, India, during its second official visit to the university.

The partnership reflects HNU’s mission as a Catholic institution dedicated to academic excellence, global competence, and transformative education. Through the MOU, both universities establish a framework for sustained collaboration in teaching, research, faculty and student mobility, and academic exchange, fostering meaningful cross-cultural and scholarly engagement.

Collaboration with JGU, an institution recognized for its strong global outlook, further strengthens HNU’s international network and academic reach, supporting the university’s long-term vision of quality, relevance, and global presence in higher education.

This milestone underscores HNU’s continued transition toward a sustainable, policy-driven internationalization framework, reinforcing its commitment to forming globally competent, values-oriented graduates and contributing meaningfully to the global academic community.

“Carols of Love, Hope for a Home” ✨🎄

This year’s institutional Christmas Party carried a deeper meaning through the theme “Carols of Love, Hope for a Home.” It reminds us that Christmas is not only a celebration, but a season of love that moves us to care and hope that inspires us to act.

Following the spirit of last year’s gift-giving for our less fortunate brothers and sisters, we were once again called to respond—this time to the plight of families severely affected by Typhoons Tino and Uwan. Through the initiative of the Integrated Basic Education Department (IBED), IBED students donated relief goods, while monetary donations were collected from the HNU faculty and administrative employees.

Yesterday, December 19, 2025, we formally turned over HNU’s donations to the Bishop of Talibon. This meaningful outreach was made possible through the coordination of the Integrated Basic Education Department (IBED) and the Center for Community Extension, Linkages, and Partnerships (CELP).

Indeed, when love and hope come together, they become a home for those in need. 💖

December 3, 2025 marked a pivotal moment for Holy Name University as it carried out its Organizational Planning for Internationalization, a strategic initiative designed to fully
operationalize the university’s global agenda in alignment with CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 55, Series of 2016. More than a compliance requirement, the activity underscored internationalization as a transformative force - one that elevates academic quality, broadens global engagement, and strengthens the role of Philippine higher education in the international arena.

From the outset, the workshop emphasized a compelling message: HNU’s goal is not to outperform local institutions, but to meet and exceed global standards. By integrating international benchmarks into its academic practices, governance systems, and quality assurance processes, the university aims to cultivate robust global partnerships and produce graduates who are prepared to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

The Organizational Planning for Internationalization stands as a testament to HNU’s commitment to shaping globally competent learners and nurturing a culture of international academic engagement. As the university advances in its internationalization journey, it reaffirms its dedication to strengthening Philippine higher education through collaboration, innovation, and sustainable global partnerships.

HNU reinforces its mission of integrating meaningful community engagement into academic instruction through the Service-Learning Orientation and Writeshop.

The two-day Service-Learning Orientation and Writeshop, organized by the Center for Community Extension, Linkages, and Partnerships (CELP) last November 13–14, brought together Deans, Program Heads, and faculty members from different academic units to deepen their understanding of service-learning frameworks and implementation standards. With the expertise of Asst. Prof. Ruth Ann S. Entea, M.Ed., RND, LPT, the Resource Speaker from Silliman University, participants explored best practices, ethical considerations, and effective course integration strategies.

Through guided writeshop sessions, the participants developed draft course-based modules that ensure clear learning outcomes, community relevance, and consistent implementation across departments. This initiative marks another step toward building a more structured, aligned, and impactful service-learning culture at HNU.

From October 28-30, delegates from Nanzan University, one of HNU’s esteemed partner institutions in Japan, visited the campus to discuss collaborative activities that will further operationalize and deepen our partnership.

During the sessions with the IBED Principal, Vice Principal and subject coordinators, the exploration of exciting joint initiatives was discussed. These include virtual exchange teaching of
English and Japanese languages, a lecture series on project presentations, homestay and semestral exchange programs, shadow teaching, and scholarship opportunities.

Another productive session with the College Deans centered on potential collaborations in cultural exchange and immersion, observation immersion at the school clinic, faculty exchanges,
and skills training programs.

The delegates also had the chance to interact with HNU students, engaging them in meaningful conversations about their academic experiences. The Nanzan representatives expressed their admiration, noting how impressed they were that students in HNU could speak freely and directly with the University President, a rare occurrence in their home institutions.

This visit marks another step forward in fostering global learning, intercultural understanding, and academic collaboration between Holy Name University and Nanzan University, a true reflection of our shared commitment to internationalization and transformative education.

HNU Extends Aid to Earthquake Victims in Northern Cebu

Through the generosity and collective effort of the Holy Name University community, sacks of rice, boxes of used clothing, and bottled water were gathered — along with monetary donations from HNU Administration, faculty, staff, and students — to extend help to those affected by the recent earthquake in Northern Cebu. These contributions became the foundation of HNU’s Donation Drive initiative.

Holy Name University sent a team of volunteers to help in the distribution of goods in affected areas last October 15, 2025. The HNU team was composed of Ms. Jacqueline Agunod (Secretary, Integrated Basic Education Department), Ms. Hannah Yolah C. Penales (Clerk, Center for Human Resource Development and Management), and Ms. Marinel C. Daray (Faculty, Integrated Basic Education Department) — together with the Community Extension Coordinator, Ms. Kayrene Marielle R. Echavia.

In collaboration with LV Travel & Tours & Transport Services through Ma’am Elvira Sarmiento, the Bohol Provincial Police Camp Dagohoy Es**rt, and municipal representatives, the team distributed relief goods, water, and clothing to earthquake-affected communities in Brgy. Kayam, San Remigio; Brgy. Lamintak Sur, Medellin; and Daan Bantayan.

HNU continues to uphold the values of volunteerism and social responsibility — standing as a testament to how unity and compassion can bring hope and healing. The heartfelt smiles of the people reminded us that every act of kindness matters. Amidst adversities, may we continue to rise together — one helping hand at a time — toward rebuilding stronger and more resilient communities.
