ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE
I don't force them to wear uniforms but they understand that wearing such lift their self esteems , walk in the campus and community with composure and pride, and making them like truly university's scholars. Indeed, it is our unique way of advocating and advertising the BSES Program despite their number.
Having been employed as instructor for the BSES program is always a challenge to deal- few enrollees. I keep searching if it is a global trend, but it's not. Universities in foreign lands offering BSES have increasing enrollees because they highly consider Environmental Management as a global need. Climate change, disaster management, pollution control, waste management, environmental education, environmental quality monitoring, and many more.
Nevertheless, we are happy that our graduates are 100% employed (relevantly and contentedly). They're doing well in their chosen career. May these are in private agencies, in the academe, in the ENR government and private sectors, as OFW, in politics, volunteers in community works, and as entrepreneurs.
We provide our best for them. Strictly training them what they should acquire from instruction. It could be tough for them- hate me, curse me, and talk behind my back. But, I understand. They will realize later that my intentions are genuine for their future careers.
This week, we subjected our BSES program for accreditation. As the program chairperson, I was hesistant and doubtful at first. However, with my two wings- Lunesa and Angerica (and faculty members for their support), their hardwork, voluntarism, dedication, enthusiasms, agility, and bravery finally inspired me to proceed with it. I don't expect for passing, the thing is, we made our best.
Our BSES students are few compared to other programs in the campus, but I always assure them that they will get the best education (with limited resources we have). Other knowledge and skills are provided strategically and practically. They're trained to do laboratory activities and interpret their observations, conduct research, impart their ideas, make paper works, explore teamwork and team building among others, which we believe are needed in their future career. THE REST ARE THEIR OWN INITIATIVES.
As one have it concluded: "I am ashamed if you pass the accreditation because you have few enrollees". But, for me, I would be more ashamed to have plenty of graduates with 2% passing rate in board exams.
Another mentioned: "The chairperson is not a PhD holder". But for me, it is a disaster to be called PhD without research publication and community engagement.
Anyway, these are challenges for us to keep going.
To the currently enrolled students of our BSES program, I pray for the best- for you to have the best career in the future- imparting everything you learned and as responsible environmental management workers.
To BSES alumni, I always pray for the best you could make and do in your chosen career. May you serve as link for the employment of BSES graduates.
I just hope that the government continue to support and provide opportunities for the employment of BSES graduates.
Finally, from the bottom of my heart, thank you very much to all those who helped us, organized our documents, provided documents, the moral support and encouragements, the happy laughters, prepared meals, and for the company.
