Per Board of Regents (BOR) Resolution No. 74, s. 2026, the Board of Regents unanimously approved the reappointment of Dr. Rowena A. Plando as SUC President III of Surigao del Norte State University, effective August 10, 2026.

The reappointment was confirmed during the Special Governing Board Meeting held at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Quezon City.

Congratulations, Dr. Rowena A. Plando, on your reappointment as the second University President of Surigao del Norte State University!

The MAED General Science Program of the Graduate School successfully conducted the extension program entitled "𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐄𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐞 2) 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐏𝐒 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐀𝐆 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦" on July 4, 2026. The activity was spearheaded by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐋. 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐞, Dean of the Graduate School, with 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐏. 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐚 serving as the Project Leader. The program aimed to strengthen the Science Process Skills (SPS) competencies of science teachers from the DepEd Surigao City Division and equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to develop SPS basic and integrated instructional materials aligned with the MATATAG Curriculum.
The program began with registration, followed by a multimedia prayer, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and the acknowledgment of speakers and participants by Dr. Emmylou Borja. In welcome message of Dr. Merlyn L. Estoque as read by Dr Manny P. Eviota emphasized the Graduate School's commitment to delivering responsive extension programs that enhance teachers' professional competencies and promote quality science education through inquiry-based teaching.
The morning session featured 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐏. 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐚, who presented an overview of Science Process Skills (SPS), its importance, and current educational perspectives, highlighting the vital role of SPS in developing learners' critical thinking, scientific inquiry, and problem-solving skills. In the afternoon session, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐒. 𝐃𝐞𝐠𝐦𝐨𝐧 discussed SPS Thinking Process and Test Items (Basic and Integrated), providing participants with practical strategies for developing competency-based assessments aligned with the their Curriculum.The lectures were followed by workshop sessions on science process skills embedded in the test questions of teachers. They apply the concepts learned during the lectures and produce contextualized test items.
The critiquing and feedback session on the participants' outputs was facilitated by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐜𝐥𝐞, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐨 𝐀𝐝𝐥𝐚𝐨𝐧, and 𝐃𝐫. 𝐄𝐦𝐦𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐮 𝐀. 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐣𝐚, who provided constructive comments and recommendations to further improve the SPS-integrated test items during the workshop. The session was smoothly hosted by Cromwell Ancla as the emcee, together with his classmates who served as student extensionists. They were assisted by 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐆𝐮𝐜𝐨𝐫, 𝐉𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐨 from the MAED General Science Program and 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜, a BSEd Science student, whose dedication and support contributed to the successful conduct of the extension activity.
The activity was honored by the visit and support of 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐓. 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐨, Education Program Supervisor in Science of the DepEd Surigao City Division, whose presence reaffirmed the strong collaboration between the University and the Department of Education. The extension team also expresses its sincere gratitude to 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐮 𝐁. 𝐃𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐨, 𝐏𝐡𝐃, 𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐎 𝐕, Schools Division Superintendent of the DepEd Surigao City Division, for her invaluable support and partnership in making the program possible. Likewise, the team extends its heartfelt appreciation to 𝐃𝐫. 𝐑𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐚 𝐒. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐨, President of Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU), for her unwavering support of the University's extension initiatives.
The extension program successfully enhanced the participants' understanding and application of Science Process Skills, strengthened their capacity to develop SPS-based instructional materials, and supported the effective implementation of the MATATAG Curriculum. The activity further demonstrated the Graduate School's commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and sustained collaboration with the Department of Education in improving the quality of science education.
