Kickstarting the academic year 2026โ€“2027, the BSHM Department successfully held its one-day Team Building, August 21, at the Surigao Doctors' College Campus, with the theme "Building Excellence: United for the Future as One HOSPIANS."

The event commenced with an invocation and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by Ms. Cindy G. Loayon, as she delivered her welcoming address, then a heartfelt special message from the Department Dean, Ms. Arvie G. Tejada, MSHM.

The participants divided into four teams: LAMIA SCALE, ร‰DOLAS, and BLUE PEGASUS. The teams competed in various activities including Parlor Games, Yell, Dance and Singing Contests, Quizz Bee, and the much-awaited Queen MX3 Pageant.

Serving as one of the board of judges was Ms. Ermalaine S. Baja, who helped evaluate different competitions throughout the event.

The Team Building wrapped up with a closing remarks from their Department Governor, Ms. Vanessa Mae Mirwani, followed by an awarding ceremony recognizing the winners.

Surigao Doctors College won the Grand Champion title at the Gaisano Capital Surigao Folk Dance Fest 2026, held at Gaisano Capital Surigao on August 15, 2026. The event started at 1:00 PM.

The team started practicing a month before the competition, but various challenges came their way, including conflicts, classes, limited practice time, and even thoughts of stopping. Despite these challenges, they still pursued the competition because Gaisano Capital motivated them to compete. Their determination and love for dancing pushed them to continue until the final performance.

During an ๐จ๐ง๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ฐ with ๐๐ซ๐ข๐š๐ง ๐€๐ ๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ ๐‰๐ฎ๐š๐ง๐ข๐œ๐จ
at 11:00 PM on August 17, 2026, he shared the team's challenges, preparations, and experiences throughout the competition. According to Brian, the lead choreographer and dance master of ๐’๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐š๐จ ๐ƒ๐จ๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ๐ฌ ๐‚๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐ž ๐๐š๐ก๐š๐ง๐๐ข ๐ƒ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐ฆ, their preparation was not easy because they had only about 4 hours to practice. Despite the limited time, they still managed to practice and prepare for their performance. Brian shared that his love for bringing the name of Surigao Doctors College to the competition motivated him to compete and show other people their love and passion for dancing.

He also credited ๐๐š๐ญ ๐๐š๐ญ๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐š๐จ ๐‹๐ฎ๐š๐ซ๐๐จ, his teammate in the competition. Their ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ž๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž helped them guide the group throughout their preparation and performance. He also shared that their love for dancing and harmony as a team helped them stand out during the competition. Despite the challenges they encountered, the dancers continued to work together and give their best. For Brian, the competition became an ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ to showcase the talent and passion of the students of Surigao Doctors College.

After being declared the Grand Champion, Brian expressed his gratitude to the members of SDC Bahandi Dancing Pilgrim for their hard work and dedication. He also thanked ๐Š๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐‰๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ซ ๐‹๐š๐›๐ž๐ฌ๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ for providing the costumes needed for their performance. The ๐‡๐Œ, ๐๐€, and ๐ˆ๐“ departments also gave their support and motivated him throughout their journey. Meanwhile, ๐Š๐ฎ๐ฒ๐š ๐๐จ๐ฒ๐ž๐ญ played a special role in making their practices successful through his patience and continuous support for the group. Brian said that the support they received helped them continue despite the difficulties they experienced during their preparation.

For Brian, being the dance master of SDC Bahandi Dancing Pilgrim is an ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐จ๐ซ, especially because this achievement is not only about the rewards they received. For him, the memories and experiences they gained throughout the competition are more meaningful. Surigao Doctors College officially commenced Academic Year 2026โ€“2027 through its General Orientation for freshmen, transferees, and returning students. The orientation for freshmen and transferees was held on July 30, while the orientation for returning students took place on July 31, 2026. Both sessions were conducted from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Lecture Hall, followed by the Department Meetings at 1:00 PM.

The General Orientation began with the introduction of the faculty and staff, including both the teaching and non-teaching personnel. This was followed by the welcome address of the School Administrator, Dr. Chesna Blythe C. Ycong, RN, MAN, who emphasized that success is achieved through perseverance and dedication. She also reminded students to uphold honesty and integrity throughout their academic journey.

The orientation aimed to familiarize students with the institutionโ€™s core values, policies, regulations, and academic practices, equipping them with the knowledge needed as they begin the new academic year. Overall, the General Orientation marked a successful start to Academic Year 2026โ€“2027, welcoming students into another year of learning, growth, and excellence.

On March 2, 2026, students of Surigao Doctors College went on an educational trip to the National Museum of the Philippines in Butuan City as part of their Art Appreciation subject. The educational tour was participated in by students from Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management 1 (BSHM), Bachelor of Science in Business Administration 2 (BSBA), and Bachelor of Science in Information Technology 2 (BSIT), together with faculty members and staff led by Sir Nyphil John Ybias, MIT.

The National Museum of the Philippinesโ€”Butuan was the first stop of the visit, where the students were warmly welcomed by the museumโ€™s docents and educators who guided the SDCians throughout the exhibit tour. In the first part of the tour, the museum educator gave an orientation on the museumโ€™s policies and guidelines, followed by an informative introduction to the museumโ€™s exhibits. These included the historical development of Butuan and its significant artifacts, the discovery of the ancient Balangay, and the Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan (GAMABA).

The learning experience continued at the Butuan Archaeological Park, where students witnessed the site where the first Balangay was discovered. The exhibit also featured skeletal remains of early Butuan inhabitants, giving students a deeper appreciation of the cityโ€™s rich archaeological and cultural heritage.

After exploring the museum and archaeological site, the SDCians headed to their next Art Appreciation activityโ€”a cinema experience where they watched Scream 7, a horror film chosen by many of the students.

In the end, the visit became a memorable and meaningful learning experience for the SDC community, allowing students to appreciate both history and culture beyond the classroom.

The Surigao Doctors College competed in the Bureau of Internal Revenue RDO No. 105โ€“Surigao City Poster Making Contest, held on February 10, 2026 with the theme โ€œMahusay na Serbisyo, Katumbas ng Buwis Moโ€ at BIR Building KM4 National Highway, Barangay Luna, Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

SDC participants are Winston Dela Paz, Rich Mark Achas who are both from the Bachelor of Science and Business Administrationโ€”Marketing Management 3 and John Fe Achas from the Bachelor of Science and Business Administrationโ€”Marketing Management 1.

During the contest, sir Nyphil John Ybias, MIT, the adviser, poured his support to the participants of SDC in the competition, believing that SDC will have its recognition as one of the competing school.

The Surigao Doctors College Faculties, Staffs, and Students also extends their warmest support to the participants of the BIR RDO No. 105. Poster-Making Contest.
