The 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 successfully held the 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩: 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐖𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 at MB Building. The workshop was attended by first- to third-year Marine Biology students and was a success, providing a meaningful academic experience for them. The workshop aimed to enhance students’ skills in scientific and laboratory report writing, an essential competency for future marine biologists and researchers.

Through lectures and discussions, the faculty speakers shared their knowledge on different topics concerning scientific and lab report writing. Mrs. Jiva P. Cañonero discussed tips for effective scientific report writing, Mr. Roldan Bihay shared basic guidelines for writing research methodology, Mr. Dan Clyde Incorporado discussed how to present data with the use of Excel tools, Ms. Leila Bejel shared her insights on proper photo documentation and referencing, and Ms. Celrose Dianne Bernadette Toniza discussed proper referencing techniques.

The participants actively took part in the workshop and acquired significant knowledge and confidence in writing scientific and laboratory reports. The workshop created an environment that allowed students to enhance their understanding and academic writing skills in science and academic writing.

On December 18, 2025, the Marine Biology Society of SLSU–Bontoc Campus successfully conducted its Christmas Party. This was done to celebrate the coming of the holiday season and to further enhance camaraderie among the members.

The program was filled with fun and meaningful activities, such as playing games, sharing laughs, and sharing moments that brought joy to all who were present. The festive atmosphere made it easy for the members to relax and enjoy each other's company despite their academic responsibilities.

The event emphasized the value of unity, friendship, and togetherness in the organization. By participating in this activity, members were able to develop lasting memories and feel a deeper sense of belonging to the Marine Biology Society.

| 𝐁𝐒 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝 “𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐤”-𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐞𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞

On December 10, 2025, the fourth-year BS Marine Biology students of SLSU-Bontoc, capped-off their Coral Reefs course with a creative and compelling culmination event that transformed ocean related topics into an engaging showcase of their creativity. Through a “Shark Tank”-inspired presentation, the students highlighted pressing issues surrounding coral reef ecosystems, ranging from coral biology and its ecosystem benefits to major threats, and broader ocean dynamics.

Each group crafted visually vibrant stage elements and pitches designed to raise awareness and deepen public understanding of the challenges facing coral reefs today. Their innovative approach and their resourcefulness combined science with creativity, making it a fun and enjoyable way to discourse and connect with their audience.

The event was graced by resident divemaster Mr. Ryan Tomol, alongside Mr. Mark Dimzon and Dr. Gladys Ludevese-Pascual, Campus Director and course instructor, who served as the panel of judges. Their professional insights added depth to the students’ presentations and encouraged critical thinking for deeper understanding of the different marine conservation efforts.

Congratulations to all BSMB seniors for delivering an impactful and insightful culmination, one that not only showcased artistry and self-awareness but also strengthened advocacy for protecting our coral reefs.

The Marine Biology 3rd year students of the BS Marine Biology successfully conducted a 3-day Ecological Assessment from November 26-28 at Hapitan Beach & Mangrove Eco-Forest Park, located in Manhilo, Maasin City, Southern Leyte as part of their Marine Botany (MB301L) and Marine Zoology I – Invertebrates (MB303L) laboratory courses.

During the activity, students surveyed and recorded the condition and diversity of the mangroves, beach forest plants, seagrass, seaweeds, and macroinvertebrates in the area. This hands-on work helped improve their field identification skills and gave a deeper understanding of how coastal ecosystems function.

The field assessment was conducted with the guidance and support of the Marine Biology faculty, led by Mrs. Alieza Del Socorro, Ms. Liela Bejel, Mr. Roldan Bihay, and Mr. Ryan Tomol. The class also extends its gratitude to the Barangay Officials of Manhilo, headed by Hon. Angelita Soliva, for their assistance and support throughout the activity.

The results of the assessment was presented to the barangay council for future initiatives on research, extension, and tourism development in the Barangay.

The team has begun assembling their working station for the eco-bag production under our flagship initiative, The 𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐎 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄 Project. This program aims to strengthen the practice of using eco-bags for everyday activities, reducing reliance on single-use plastics that often end up polluting our oceans.
