Si ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ท๐ผ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฒ ๐๐ด๐๐๐๐ถ๐ป, isang 2nd Year CE student, ay kasalukuyang humihingi ng tulong at dasal para sa kanyang ama.
Kinakailangan nilang makalikom ng humigit-kumulang โฑ๐ญ๐ญ๐ฌ,๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฌ.

The Philippine Society for Microbiology (PSM) Bicol Chapter conducted their 18th Regional Convention and Scientific Meeting at Sorsogon State University Sorsogon City Campus on March 21, 2026, with the theme "Microbial Blueprints: Designing Healthier Communities and a Resilient Planet". The event gathered students, teachers and researchers from different universities in Bicol region, as well as features professional researchers as guest speakers to share their studies and discuss new developments in microbiology.
One of the highlights of the convention was the research presentations where participants presented their studies through poster and oral presentation.
A student from Sorsogon State University, ๐๐ผ๐ต๐ป ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฒ๐, a second-year BS Biology student, won in the Research Poster Presentation. His study, conducted with his team, titled "Comparative Morphological Characterization of Bacterial Presence on Exterior Area of Pechay (๐๐ณ๐ข๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ค๐ข ๐ณ๐ข๐ฑ๐ข ๐ด๐ถ๐ฃ๐ด๐ฑ. ๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ด), Cabbage (๐๐ณ๐ข๐ด๐ด๐ช๐ค๐ข ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ข ๐ท๐ข๐ณ. ๐ค๐ข๐ฑ๐ช๐ต๐ข๐ต๐ข), and Tomato (๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ถ๐ฎ ๐ญ๐บ๐ค๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ณ๐ด๐ช๐ค๐ถ๐ฎ)" examined the bacterial presence found on the outer surface of commonly consumed vegetables. The research aimed to help increase awareness about microbial contamination in fresh produce and was conducted under the guidance of their adviser, ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป.
Another recognition was given in the Oral Research Presentation Student Category to ๐ ๐ฎ. ๐ก๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฎ ๐๐๐ฏ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐๐ด๐ฎ๐ป from Bicol University, who is currently an instructor at Sorsogon State University. Her research, conducted with her team, titled "Invisible Swimmers: Culture and Molecular Detection of Free-Living Amoebae to Shape Evidence-Based Pool Safety Policies in Albay, Philippines" focused on detecting free-living amoebae in swimming pools. The study highlights the importance of monitoring microorganisms in swimming pool water to help improve public health and pool safety policies.
Also recognized in the Oral Presentation category was ๐ ๐. ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐๐๐ฎ ๐ง๐๐บ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ for her research titled "Characterization and Isolation of Microorganisms Present in Fingerscale Sardinella (๐๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ๐ช๐ฏ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ญ๐ข ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ณ๐ถ) from Sorsogon Public Market." Conducted with her team under the guidance of their adviser, ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฟ๐๐ผ๐ป., the study highlighted microbial contamination in locally sourced fish, emphasizing the importance of monitoring microorganisms to ensure food safety.
The recognition of both the students and instructor from Sorsogon State University highlights the university's growing participation in research and academic activities in Bicol Region. By hosting the convention, the Sorsogon State University showed it's strong support for science while helping promote learning and cooperation among schools in the field of microbiology

At its core, the heart is simply an organ โ a strong, rhythmic muscle built for function, not feeling. It contracts and relaxes in perfect cycles, pushing blood through vessels and delivering oxygen to every living cell. Powered by its own electrical impulses, it works tirelessly, beating over a hundred thousand times a day without pause, without awareness, without emotion.
Biologically, the heart does not know love. It does not recognize joy or heartbreak. It does not ache in longing nor swell in affection. And yet, through centuries of human experience, we chose it to represent the deepest emotion we know.
Perhaps because the heart endures.
It continues to beat through adrenaline and anxiety, through laughter and loss. It beats faster in moments we cherish and stays steady when everything else feels uncertain. It survives strain, heals from damage, and carries life forward even when we feel fragile.
And so, an organ built only to sustain life became the universal symbol of love โ not because it feels, but because it persists.
This Valentineโs Day, biology reminds us of a quiet truth: love does not have to be perfect or loud to be real. Like the heart, it silently shows up, consistently giving, again and again.

The Sorsu Biological Society proudly participated in the Studentsโ and Stakeholdersโ Forum on Environmental Protection and Climate Action, organized by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) in partnership with Sorsogon State University, on January 28, 2026, at the SorSU CBM Building.
This forum gave us a valuable opportunity to see how biology, climate science, and community action intersect. From discussions on climate resiliency and waste-to-energy technologies, to the youthโs role in sustainable development, we were reminded that biologists are not only researchersโthey are advocates and problem-solvers for the environment.
A key highlight was EcoSaver (ecosaver.earth), a tool that empowers individuals to reduce waste, save energy, and take measurable daily climate actions. Small changes, when done together, create big impacts for our communities and ecosystems.
The forum also included an oath-taking ceremony, formalizing our commitment to environmental stewardship and proactive climate action. For todayโs students and tomorrowโs biologists, events like this bridge theory and practice, showing how science informs policy, governance, and local solutions.
We thank SorSU, the Climate Change Commission, DOST, and all partners for empowering the youth to act for the planet.
