Sorsogon State University (SorSU) proudly secured 3𝒓𝒅 𝑷𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆 in the prestigious 10th Intercollegiate AggregatES Quiz: Arcana Ascension, reaffirming the university’s reputation for excellence in intellect, skill, and determination.
Representing 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗦𝗨 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗔, Civil Engineering students 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗼 𝗗. 𝗝𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗼, 𝗝𝗿., 𝗝𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝘇 𝗙. 𝗢𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘄 𝗙. 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀, guided by their mentor 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗻, showcased outstanding mastery in the challenging domain of Mechanics of Materials. Their performance earned national recognition alongside top universities across the country.
This achievement places SorSU among the nation’s finest, standing proudly beside 𝗠𝗮𝗽𝘂𝗮 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 (Champion) and 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 – Dumanjug Extension Campus (2nd Place).
This victory marks a significant milestone in SorSU’s pursuit of academic excellence, highlighting the talent and perseverance of its Civil Engineering students. It serves as an inspiration for future engineers, educators, and leaders to embrace challenges with courage, wisdom, and resilience.

Beyond the blueprints and the lectures, the success of the Sorsogon State University (SorSU) College of Engineering and Architecture (COEA) lies in its people, who gathered on December 19, 2025, for an annual Christmas Party dedicated to fellowship and excellence.

The event, opened by Engr. Larry Gracilla and Engr. Rufo D. Durian III, featured a centerpiece Awarding of Recognition where the Dean and Program Chairs honored faculty members for their outstanding performance and innovation throughout the year. Guided by masters of ceremony Marianne Miranda-Yuson and April Joy Guanzon, the celebration blended formal tributes with festive joy, including intermission numbers, games, a shared meal, gift distributions and a raffle draw sponsored by Boysen, which added to the excitement of the exchange gift.

The celebration ended with the Dance and Socials, marking a joyful conclusion to a record-breaking year for the college’s faculty and personnel.

The final day of the seminar workshop was packed with insightful presentations and collaborative discussions. Dr. Ryan Dio shed light on Pili Oil Processing, emphasizing community visits for impactful research. Groups showcased innovative projects:

*Development of Pili & Coconut Shell Briquette
*Sorsogon Root Crop Industry
*SMART Community Transportation
Evaluators provided invaluable feedback, sparking ideas for growth and collaboration. Representatives from the four groups shared their workshop takeaways, showing gratitude to all involved.
The participants together with the convenors and different committees celebrated the guest speakers and evaluators, recognizing their invaluable contributions. Engr. Rufo Durian, III, Dean of COEA, closing remarks highlighted the event's role in refining research practices for a brighter future.

The fourth- day of the seminar-workshop was unfolded with diverse activities. 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐳 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐨 facilitated insightful conversations among participants and allowed them to share their insights and experiences with industry partners. Teams showcased seminar knowledge in a lively group quiz, fostering a vibrant learning environment. 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 & 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐬 took center stage, with a focus on project essentials and funding sources. Groups presented their forward-thinking project rationales, unveiling innovative ideas and roadmap visions. Participants dove deeper into proposal components, refining presentations for the next day’s activity: presentation and critiquing the proposals. The day ended with a joyful group photo, marking the fruitful progression through the first four days of the workshop.

The highlight of the third session on November 8 was the 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀. Each group was paired with business owners in the Province of Sorsogon, who are involved in either food production or metal works. Their discussion included identifying the problems faced by the respective industries by understanding the processes involved in the production. Following this, the participants came up with possible solutions to these problems that included proposing the development of machineries catered to the needs of the industry.

The invited industry partners were:

• 𝗔𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗧. 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗼 (Jeresano Welding Shop)
• 𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗼 𝗘. 𝗘𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘀 (Esquillo’s Enterprise)

In the afternoon, the workshop continued as the participants prepared the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Report of their proposed solution. A representative of each group presented their TNA Report, followed by the critiquing.

The activity emphasized the importance of the dialogue between DOST, industry, and academe to 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

The second day of the seminar-workshop commenced with 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐳 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐃. 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐨, 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭, as speaker. He delivered a comprehensive discussion on 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 that included the latest techniques, tools, and materials utilized in manufacturing. He further discussed 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, a system of methods that aims to minimize waste while maximizing productivity.

Following the lectures, the participants were tasked to conceptualize a specific project out of the roadmap they created during the previous day. Then, they discussed the manufacturability of the project by identifying the technical specifications, functional requirements, and system architecture. Furthermore, it was crucial to identify the possible team members and stakeholders who would be involved in creating the project.

Each group, then, presented their project which was critiqued by the speakers and fellow participants.

The teaching and non-teaching personnel of the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 participate in a five-day seminar workshop on industrial automation and research proposal preparation on 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟲-𝟭𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯at the Villa Isabel Hotel, Sorsogon City.

The activity, entitled “𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴-𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗔 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆-𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥&𝗗 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻”, aims to equip the participants with knowledge and skills on the current trends in engineering and innovation. Furthermore, it intends to advance the skills of the participants in preparing R&D proposals on engineering and industrial automation that has the potential to foster collaboration with the local Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Province of Sorsogon.

The seminar-workshop was done in partnership with Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏
The first day focused on the R&D Proposal Writing Preparation facilitated by the guest speaker, 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗚𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗗. 𝗘𝘀𝗽𝗲ñ𝗮. Divided into four groups, the participants were tasked to create roadmaps that aimed to provide the overview of the planned research. Roadmaps identify the current situation that serves as the background in the formulation of the proposal, the target stakeholders, the objectives, as well as the specific activities that will be conducted in the duration of the project. In addition, roadmaps provide an overview of the project’s timeline.
Each group was assigned an area of development that will be the focus of their roadmap, and aligned to the research agenda of SorSU and DOST. These areas were:
• Food Production and Security
• Agri-fisheries and Natural Resources
• Renewable Energy
• Smart Cities and Communications
The participants presented their outputs, followed by the critiquing of the guest speaker.
