Sipalay City Marine Protected Areas This is to provide information and backgrounder on the management effectiveness of the established marine protected areas in the City of Sipalay.

MPAs establishment started on 2004 thru enactment of City Ordinance 2004-006, and its implementing rules and regulations E.O 14,Series of 2005. thus the birth of Campomanes Bay Marine Reserve and Sanctuary. today, proposals for the 3 potential sites like Juliens Wreck marine Reserve and Sanctuary, Brgy. Cartagena, Sunken Island Marine Reserve and sanctuary, Brgy.IV, and Maasin Point Marine Reserve

and Sanctuary, Brgy. Maricalum, are being processed...at the end of 2016, Sipalay City shall have 6 established marine reserves and sanctuaries. By 2017 , the amended ordinance was finally approved for ex*****on and implementation for the realization of the 8 MPA's at present .

Opening of the 25th City Environment Month ,June 2,2025 ..all started with a TreeAthlon Activity ...combining Walk Run and Ride Kick off in NGC .Barangay Gil Montilla to Local Conservation Area, Barangay 5.Sipalay City participated by different Coastal PO's and Fisherfolk Organization, Sectoral stewards to include youth,women and concerned environmental advocates,Sipalay City running team and marathon enthusiast and local biking, community, SEMBA in its fifth year which just started from a simple environmental ride to gain more advocates to join and participate as we work closely together achieving this year theme # Ending Plastic Pollution......aimed fjr the reduction of our greenhouses emission,improving biodiversity conservation , community empowerment and health well being promotion all attributed to the strong support of the LGU to carried out the necessary action in finding a lasting solution to the current climate crisis and together we can make a difference......Happy Environment Day.

Last Leg for the Citizen Science Training facilitated by the PEW Project courtesy of our project partners headed by Doc Rene Abesamis (MPA Specialist ) and team Ms. Czang Escoro and Sir Raph Toledo in imparting another valuable knowledge and skills in reef ecosystem monitoring to local underwater monitoring team using the MPA FishMapp and ALWAN methods as we start to replicate and apply on site the learnings being pass on to local MPA managers and embark to another level of stewardship commitment ensuring sustained future resource management policy ex*****on covering the social , technical , ecological and governance component towards an effective MPA network corridor program approach mechanism in promoting the South Negros Key Marine Biodiversity Area collaboration and coordination efforts in protecting these fragile resources complementing a strengthened community based management structure of both human resources and ecosystem services .

Final inception and coordination phase for the SiRENA CAW Project Expansion Sites for Nauhang , Barangay V , Cartagena , Maricalum and Cayhagan : Numerous coordination and collaborative meetings were ironed out to finalize the details of project implementation of the scaled up daily coastal clean up drive to the different local councils and operating PO's in recognizing the important role of women in environmental management , gender empowerment and sectoral participation of coastal peoples organization operating within and adjacent to the established Marine and Mangrove Protected Areas ensuring waste debris are reduced and hindering its total leaching to the coastal ecosystem. A very delicate and complicated balancing act of connecting human resource and its accompanying ecosystem as we move forward in synchronizing such valuable efforts and importance for gender empowerment , environmental management and climate crisis solution and policy mitigation. As we take a bold step in sustaining such advocacies and endeavour in harnessing available resources and valued network connectivity by strengthening community based management policy administration and local partners participation as we thank the Honorable City Government and CSWDO of its relentless support of these advocacies and enhancing ownership and utmost dedication .... beat plastic solution ..... and end coastal pollution by 2050...... the challenge continues...

Final underwater survey output of the week for the North cluster MPA Network covering Julien's Wreck , Cathedral Reef and Repolyo Reef for the final data consolidation upload using the MPAFishMapp monitoring tool that seeks to translates and interpret fish biomass coverage , biodiversity of fish species and density patterns within and outside protected area . A total of 48 transect stations were laid out for both shallow and deep monitoring stations . Job well done team for the realization of the specified target output and continued capacity skills enhancement for the underwater monitoring team of the LGU .

ATM. As part of the on going organizational management strengthening assisted by City ENRO -Coastal Management Section assisting Coastal PO's affiliated to the Local FARMC in close coordination with Local PESO Office, recently conducted an organizational dialogue for a possible support livelihood assistance for the 4 identified accredit fisherfolks organization ( First Batch) participating in the MPA Network Corridor Program Policy Administration through the enhancement mentoring and coaching for intensive financial literacy capacitation anticipating an aggressive social preparation for the availment of any support assistance .Thanking the LGU for the necessary organizational assistance and track record trust as we forge a strong partnership for the realization of an effective community based management approach mechanism bringing coastal communities closer to govt frontline services

Maintain the pacing.....The first quarter accomplishment have greatly motivated our coastal PO's assisted organization daily clean up volunteers SiRENA CAW together with it's sister volunteer group the Lakbayun and LCA to accept the challenge of reducing marine litter and trash that continue to pollute coastal waters with more or less 4 ,000 kilograms collected and audited waste documentation , but these does not hinder their defined goals of reducing debris directly affecting the coastal areas and ocean ecosystem, protected areas as well ....such encouragement,dedication and motivation have kept us optimistic for others will join such cause and advocacy intended for the future generation....kudos to our coastal daily clean up volunteers of the City...Sustainable GAINS, Road to a Green Destination.
