It is with profound sadness that we confirm a vehicular accident involving several of our ROTC cadets that occurred earlier this morning in Purok 4, Barangay Mahayahay, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.
Based on initial reports, twenty-nine (29) ROTC cadets were on their way from Sindangan to Pagadian City for the graduation ceremony of their Advanced ROTC Training when the brakes of the bus they were riding busted, resulting in a tragic accident. As a result, two individuals died on the spot, including one of our student cadets, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
At present, medical personnel in several hospitals across Zamboanga del Sur are assisting the injured student cadets. They are also being attended to by representatives from the school, the bus company (Rural Transit, Inc.), and some members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), who oversees the cadets. The school is closely monitoring the victimsโ conditions and remains in constant communication with their families.
The SJCSI community extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, especially to the family of our student cadet. We respond to this tragedy with deep compassion and assure the families of the victims of our utmost cooperation.
The SJCSI community expresses its sincere gratitude to the responders for their immediate assistance during the incident and assures the public that the school is taking all necessary actions regarding this incident.
The entire SJCSI community is in deep sorrow over the loss of one precious life, and we pray that those who were badly injured may heal the soonest and overcome the trauma. We therefore ask for your prayers that everyone who has been a victim of this tragedy may heal from this nightmare.
