NATURE MATTERS 🌱

Playing outdoors may look simple, but for young children, interacting with nature can provide opportunities for movement, learning, social interaction, and emotional development.

A University of the Philippines Los Baños study explored teachers’ lived experiences in implementing nature-based play (NBP) at a child development center and examined how urbanization and decreasing green spaces affect opportunities for children to play in natural environments.

Researchers Hannah Raven S. Gutierrez, Juliana Selina A. Agoncillo, Trisha Mae U. Catapang, and Casper Boongaling Agaton found that participating teachers viewed nature-based play as an important part of holistic early childhood development.

Teachers described NBP as generally unstructured play that takes place in natural environments and uses elements of nature. From their experiences, they associated it with multiple developmental areas, from physical activity and cognitive learning to children’s social and emotional development.

But access to this kind of play is becoming more challenging.

The study identified shrinking natural and green spaces amid expanding urban infrastructure as one barrier to NBP implementation. Teachers also faced weather disturbances, safety concerns, and increasing workloads that could limit opportunities to bring children into natural environments.

The researchers emphasized the importance of integrating accessible green spaces into urban planning and design and encouraging community participation in nature-based play.

As cities continue to grow, the findings highlight a simple consideration for communities designed around children: development does not only mean constructing more spaces, it also means preserving places where children can play, explore, and experience nature.

What does it really mean to become a teacher?

Here’s our take on what’s “Kinda Chic” about being a Balai Teacher!

Behind every teacher is a story, a purpose, and a heart for the children they teach. Check out the album and get to know the heart behind each of our Balai Teachers.

Whether you’re a parent, a student, or simply someone whose life has been touched by our Balai teacher, leave a message in the comments and let them know how much you appreciate them. 💛

Sometimes, a few kind words are all it takes to remind a teacher why they chose to teach.

💛 BALAI GURO’S WELLNESS CHALLENGE SERIES 💛
At Balai, we believe that taking care of our teachers is also part of taking care of our learners.
Throughout the school year, we will be introducing different simple and enjoyable wellness challenges designed to encourage our Balai Guros to make time for their physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.
This is our Balai Guro’s Wellness Challenge Series. 🌻
These challenges are not about being the strongest, fastest, or most athletic. They are about building small healthy habits, having fun together, encouraging one another, and remembering that while we spend so much of our time caring for our students, we also need to make time to care for ourselves.

And we're starting with something simple:
STEP UP, TEACHERS!
Balai Teachers’ Walking Challenge

Our introductory challenge is all about MOVEMENT!
Using Strava, All Balai teachers will record their walks, see each other's progress, encourage their co-teachers, and enjoy a little friendly competition along the way.

You don't have to be one of our top walkers to participate.
We will also be looking at your ACTIVE PARTICIPATION, COOPERATION, and ENGAGEMENT throughout the challenge.
Teachers who consistently participate, cooperate, encourage their co-teachers, and join our daily challenges will have the chance to receive:
SPECIAL SURPRISE PRIZES

World Teachers’ Day Celebration

Good day, Balai Parents!

As we celebrate World Teachers’ Day, we take this opportunity to recognize the wonderful teachers who guide, nurture, encourage, and celebrate our little learners every day.

Please take note of the following schedule:

October 1 – Teacher Appreciation Day 💛
Regular classes will proceed as scheduled.
This is also our little day to celebrate our Balai teachers! We encourage our children and families to take a moment to show their appreciation in their own special way. A simple handwritten note, a drawing made by your child, a warm message, or even a heartfelt “Thank you, Teacher!” can mean so much. 💛

There is absolutely no need for anything grand—the sweetest gestures are often the simplest ones. We simply hope our teachers feel how valued and appreciated they are for the love, patience, and dedication they give to their students each day.

October 2 – Today, No Plan! 👩‍🏫
There will be NO CLASSES for all programs and services on October 2 as we give way to our yearly Teachers’ Day celebration.

This year, we are calling it:

✨ TODAY, NO PLAN! ✨
Teachers spend so much of their days planning—lesson plans, activities, schedules, materials, events, and countless little things for their students.
So for one day, we’re giving them permission to have no plan at all! 💛
Our Balai Bel Air and Silang teachers will come together at the Balai Bel Air Branch from 12:00 NN to 4:00 PM for a simple celebration dedicated to appreciating their hard work and giving them time to relax, enjoy, connect, and simply be celebrated.

Regular classes will resume after the Teachers’ Day break.

Thank you, dear parents, for joining us in appreciating the teachers behind our children's learning, growth, and many little victories. 🌻

Happy World Teachers’ Day to our Balai Guros! 💛

1st Term Culminating Activity đź’›

As we wrapped up our Community Helpers theme, we wanted our little learners to experience their learning beyond the classroom.

As their curiosity grew around cleaning, recycling, and caring for their surroundings, Brgy. Balubad warmly welcomed us for a meaningful hands-on experience! Our students got to meet the wonderful people who help keep their community clean, safe, and organized—and even got to experience riding the barangay rescue vehicle! 🚑

A big thank you to Brgy. Captain Sir Larry for welcoming us and approving our request, and to all the barangay staff who generously shared their time with our children—from helping with traffic enforcement to showing them how different community helpers work together. 💛

More than just learning about community helpers inside the classroom, our children got to see them in action and experience what it truly means to be part of a community.

Thank you, Brgy. Balubad, for showing our little learners what a community can accomplish when everyone works together. đź’›

Because learning becomes even more meaningful when children get to see it, experience it, and be part of it.

What a meaningful way to wrap up our 1st Term! đź’›
