Here is a simple diagram of a computer showing the Northbridge and Southbridge in relation to the rest of the essential parts. So if you take a look at the Northbridge portion, some systems have evolved by integraing the GPU(Graphics Processor Unit, aka video card) into the CPU chip. Meaning that the Northbridge has become more closer to the CPU ever, check the ARM CPU architecture in google. Little Pi computers are using it ike the Banana Pi, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, Orange Pi...and probably Xbox consoles. And here comes AMD putting all of the Northbridge into the same chip as the CPU, they call it the Sandy Bridge, the Southbridge however remained separate. I am still looking for a system that has both in one chip.
