Labas Senior High School Press Conference 2025

The Campus Journalism Society capped off their intensive training for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference with the successful conduct of the Labas Senior High School Press Conference (LSPC).

The LSPC serves as a simulation of real-world journalism practices, emphasizing editorial decision-making, teamwork under pressure, and ethical reporting. It also provides a platform for student journalists to uphold and practice their right to freedom of expression, as enshrined in Republic Act No. 7079 or the Campus Journalism Act of 1991.

Distinguished speakers for the simulated press conference were School Reading Coordinators Ma’am Ellainne Mae Joy S. Jumalon and Ma’am Ma. Vee-Anne T. De Leon, who shared valuable insights on effective communication and media literacy.

Participants in the LSPC included student teams set to compete in Collaborative Desktop Publishing, Online Publishing, TV Broadcasting, and Radio Broadcasting categories.

ICYMI | LSHS Campus Journalism Society Holds “Call to Lede” Journalism Workshop

Labas Senior High School, through its Campus Journalism Society, geared up for press conference season with a two-day training workshop titled “Call to Lede” held last August 9 and 16, 2025.

The title “Call to Lede” is a creative play on the phrase “call to lead,” highlighting the workshop’s aim of empowering student journalists to take initiative, responsibility, and leadership in the field. In journalism, a lede refers to the opening sentence or paragraph of a news story crafted to capture attention and summarize key information—an apt metaphor for the workshop’s goal of sharpening both skill and impact.

The training featured distinguished experts and alumni who shared their knowledge across various fields of campus journalism: Ken Vinuya (news writing), Mr. Perry Delos Reyes (editorial and column writing), Mr. Marlon Labastida (feature writing), Fatima Guerrero (science writing), Neil de Chavez and Kyle Acain (sports writing), Mr. Arnold Elago (editorial cartooning), Mr. Kyll Ciudad (photojournalism), Miss Jonaliza Abito and JM Velandrez (copyreading and headline writing), Ms. Sheena Joy C. Mariñas, Ms. Christianne Marie C. Lorenzo, Ms. Aieshae Gabrielle C. Lachica, Yvaine A. Navarro, James S. Tolitol, and Sherry Mae B. Aracan (TV broadcasting), Mr. Carlo Molina (collaborative and online publishing), and Mr. Jelle Marcellana with Miss Luwela Ausa Amor (radio broadcasting).

The success of this initiative was made possible through the support of Hon. Mayor Arlene B. Arcillas, Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas, Councilor Joey Catindig, Councilor Janine Aala, SPTA President Dyna Cruz, Ma’am Ma. Cristina C. Pegollo, and the dedicated teachers, students, and parents of LSHS. Truly, “Call to Lede” was more than just a workshop—it was a step forward in nurturing the next generation of campus journalists.
