As Manila continues to pursue infrastructure development, the recent tree-cutting and transplantation activities linked to the SALEX project have sparked conversations about the balance between progress and environmental protection. While mobility and connectivity are important, urban development must also safeguard the green spaces that contribute to climate resilience, public health, and community well-being.

In line with the observance of World Environment Day yesterday, this issue reminds us that sustainable development is not only about building for the future, it is also about preserving the natural systems that support life in our cities today. As future Environmental Planners, we stand firm in advocating for development that protects our urban green spaces, promotes climate resilience, and places both for people and the environment.

Ngunit paano mo pipigilin ang alon sa pagragasa,
Kung likas sa dagat ang humalik sa pampang nang may pag-asa?

Kung likas sa liwanag nito na baguhin ang dilim at umangat?
