To my daughter,
If one day you wonder why I chose distance, I hope you never mistake it for hatred.
I left because I wanted to keep the gentle parts of me alive.
I wanted you to grow up with a mother who could still smile, still love, and still believe that people can change.
I could have stayed and let resentment become my language. Instead, I chose silence. I chose space. I chose healing.
I hope you learn that boundaries are not acts of cruelty.
They are acts of courage.
Never believe that love requires you to abandon yourself.
There will be people who say they love you only when your needs are small, your voice is quiet, and your boundaries are easy to cross.
Love them if you can. Respect them if you can. But never lose yourself trying to earn the kind of love that asks you to disappear.
Choose kindness. Choose grace. Choose peace.
And if you ever have to walk away, do it Not with hatred in your heart, but with hope that one day, when enough healing has happened, everyone can meet again with gentler hearts.
That is the kind of woman I hope you become.
And that is the kind of mother I am still trying to be..
Love,
Your Mama.
