𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐬: 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐉𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐠𝐨 𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐚𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐚𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

On September 19, 2026, San Juan City held “Linggo ng Kabataan 2026, Flavors Beyond Borders: Tara G! Around the World!” at the City Hall Parking Grounds, exhibiting cuisines from countries assigned to each barangay.

The event was organized in partnership with San Juan’s Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), aiming to promote entertainment, cultural awareness, and community participation among the city’s youth and residents.

Featuring 21 countries, the event saw different barangays design booths inspired by their assigned nations: the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, France, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Belgium, Thailand, the USA, Jamaica, South Africa, Colombia, Mexico, Egypt, China, Brazil, India, Switzerland, Greece, and Madagascar.

Participating barangays included Balong-Bato, Batis, Corazon de Jesus, Ermitaño, Pasadena, Pedro Cruz, Progreso, Rivera, Salapan, and San Perfecto from District 1, along with Addition Hills, Greenhills, Isabelita, Kabayanan, Little Baguio, Maytunas, Onse, St. Joseph, Sta. Lucia, Tibagan, and West Crame from District 2.

Starting at 3 PM, facilitators handed out tickets and play money in front of the City Hall to give attendees access to each cultural dish.

The country-inspired setup allowed residents to experience different cuisines and cultural representations without leaving San Juan City.

Through its international theme, Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 highlighted the role of youth-centered community activities in bringing residents together while encouraging young people to engage with cultures beyond their own.

San Juan City Science High School (SJCSHS) emerged as the Top-Performing Secondary School in both the Individual and Group Categories during the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC) 2026, held at the Pinaglabanan Elementary School Ground Floor Multipurpose Hall on September 17, 2026. 🎖

JuanSci campus journalists from The Luminare and Ang Duyog brought home medals, certificates, and recognition, marking another achievement for the school's campus journalism community. 🏆 📰

Beyond the awards, these achievements reflect the dedication, preparation, and passion of the young journalists and their trainers in using journalism to inform and give voice to meaningful stories. 🗣️ ✨

Oops, oops, oops… Goodbye bedroom, hello classroom! 🎒

Welcome back from a refreshing 7-day health break, Juanscians! After a well-deserved rest, it’s finally time to step out of our rooms and back into the school halls. Hopefully, everyone had enough time to recharge because a new term is officially here!

As the break comes to an end, it’s time to ease back into our routines. The late nights, mid-day naps, and broken "I'll sleep early tonight" promises can take a backseat for now. School days are calling once again!

But this new term isn't just about lessons, deadlines, and early alarms. It's another chance to grow, tackle new challenges, create lasting memories, and enjoy the little moments that make school life special.

So pack those bags, sharpen those minds, and bring back that Juanscian spirit! Whether the days ahead bring excitement, hard work, or a bit of both, something new is always waiting beyond the classroom doors.

Representing San Juan City Science High School, Frances Athena Peralta proudly served as our School Muse Representative 👑, while our Cheer Dance team delivered an outstanding performance and brought home the Championship title. 🏆📣

Did you know Baybayin isn’t the only ancient writing system in the Philippines?

Do you know any other writing systems besides Baybayin? If not, don’t worry, because we’re about to take a little trip back in time! ⏳️

Let’s turn the pages back and dive into the ancient world of Filipino writing systems! 📖✨

Long before the alphabet we use today, Filipinos already had their own ways of writing. Yep, you read that right! Instead of the letters we’re familiar with now, different communities used their own unique syllabaries.

And no, Baybayin wasn’t the only one.

For instance, meet Kulitan! Kulitan is an abugida traditionally used for the Kapampangan language. Its roots can be traced to ancient Brahmic scripts of India, and its structure shares similarities with other writing systems found across Southeast Asia.

But here’s where things get even more interesting: Kulitan is traditionally read and written vertically—from top to bottom and right to left! So instead of simply reading across the page like we usually do, Kulitan takes a completely different direction. Talk about standing out!

Spanish lexicographers referred to its individual characters as "culit," which contributed to the name "Kulitan." And here’s another fun fact: Kulitan developed within the Philippines and is not based on the Latin alphabet. So nope, it wasn’t just an ancient version of the ABCs!

And honestly, that’s what makes them so fascinating. Each script carries the history, language, and culture of the communities that have preserved them through generations.

These writing systems reflect just how diverse our country really is—because Filipinos didn’t all have just one way of expressing themselves. Different regions didn't just have their own languages; they also had their own scripts and ways of preserving their stories and culture.

So, the next time someone asks you, “What kind of writing systems does your country have?” Baybayin doesn’t always have to be your only answer.

From the echoes of the Sigaw ng Pugad Lawin to the silent ink of revolutionary pens, our nation was forged in the fire of extraordinary courage. We are the proud children of giants—of Bonifacio’s fierce resolve, Rizal’s visionary intellect, Tandang Sora’s unconditional refuge, Luna’s unyielding fire, and of more sacrificial acts done by our heroes. They did not just dream of a free sky for the Philippines; they bled, wrote, fought, and sacrificed so that we could walk beneath it today in liberty.

On this National Heroes Day, we look back at the giants of our past— not to grieve the tragedy of it but to celebrate the icons carved into history, the unsung warriors whose names were swept away by time, and every soul who dared to believe that freedom was worth everything. Their stories aren't just ink on old parchment; they are the living, breathing pulse of our identity, burning brightly in our veins. May we carry their flame with honor, speak their truths with pride, and prove ourselves worthy of the legacy they left behind.

Mabuhay ang kasaysayan! Mabuhay ang lahing Pilipino! 🇵🇭🔥✨

San Juan City distributed free custom rubber shoes to public school students during a special event at the E-Gov Theatre Hall on August 24, 2026.

Mayor Francis Zamora led the program alongside local officials and staff. In a hands-on gesture of support, Mayor Zamora and his son, Rocco personally helped students put on and tie their new footwear.
The initiative is part of the city’s broader commitment to public education, which includes providing learners with free P.E. uniforms, digital tools, and learning essentials. During the event, local officials also highlighted San Juan’s recent recognition as the top-ranking city in functional literacy in the Philippines.

Through these continuous support programs, the local government aims to ease financial burdens on families while ensuring San Juaneño learners have the resources they need to succeed.

𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: You’re in a crowd of people. You scan the room and spot someone unfamiliar—a new face. You lock eyes, and immediately, you feel your cheeks warm up. You look away and think... “𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜? 𝙎𝙤 𝙨𝙪𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙣𝙚𝙬... 𝙄 𝙛𝙚𝙡𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙄 𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙙 𝙚𝙮𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪.”

What if I told you that exact feeling has a name? The perfect word to describe it is 𝙠𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙙𝙖.

The Filipino word “𝙆𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙣𝙖𝙙𝙖” refers to a crush, a target of affection, or someone you 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰. 👀

Ever wondered where it came from? The term didn't actually originate in the Philippines, but in Spain—with a meaning slightly different from how we use it today.

It traces back to the Spanish word "𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙯𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙙𝙖" (derived from corazón, meaning heart), which refers to 𝐚 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡, 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. Over time, Filipinos adapted it into kursunada—someone or something you 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞. ❤️‍🔥

Though the definitions evolved, both lead back to the very thing that keeps us buzzing: the heart. Our language, much like the heart, is the reason we are so full of life and love. Kursunada is a gentle reminder that language stems from the heart of the people who speak it. 🇵🇭

So this 𝘽𝙪𝙬𝙖𝙣 𝙣𝙜 𝙒𝙞𝙠𝙖, let's fall in love with the stories behind the words we speak and the culture that shaped them. 🔍💕

The tarmac was silent before the shot rang out. It was all too fast, and in a snap of a finger, the inevitable came—the deafening and unmistakable sound of a body hitting gravel.

He walked back into the searing Manila heat bearing no weapon, only the conviction that a nation shackled in darkness was still worth returning to. For years, exile offered safety, quiet, and distance. Yet love for country is a restless tide—it pulls the exiled home, even when shadow waits at the foot of the stairs. And with a head held high, he walked even with the heavy weight of a thousand eyes and a single finger patiently resting on the trigger.

A single yellow ribbon tied to a tree branch became a whisper. That whisper became a roar.

An act meant to show fear only ignited the withering spark of revolution. They thought a single moment could silence a voice, but blood spilled upon the asphalt became an indelible ink, writing the opening line of an awakening. In that sacrifice, millions recognized their own long-buried courage. The fear that had kept a nation silent dissolved into footsteps—stepping forward, side by side, until the dawn broke through.

The Filipino is worth dying for, he famously said. But every August 21, history reminds us of the unspoken continuation: freedom is worth living for, standing for, and protecting every single day. It was an assurance that the sun shall shine on the Philippines again, and that it did.
