🚨Meteor shower alert!
For 2023, the Geminid Meteor Shower will be active from December 4 to December 17, with its peak activity in the early hours of December 15. The meteors from this event appear to radiate from the constellation Gemini. The best time to view the meteor shower in Quezon City will be from the night of December 14 until the early morning of the following day.
On the night of peak activity, Gemini reaches its highest point in the sky at around 02:00 AM (December 15). During this time, and under ideal viewing conditions, the meteor shower may produce up to 120 meteors per hour. This year, the peak activity time of the meteor shower coincides with a moonless night, thus there will be no interference from the moonlight on the observation of the meteors. The meteors from this shower originate from the fragments of its parent body, asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

We’re turning 12 on Valentine’s Day, mga KaSaMa!
To mark this special occasion, we’re starting the year with an exclusive offering: a virtual stargazing session straight from the UP NISMED astronomical observatory which houses one of the country’s most powerful telescopes. Attendees will observe the comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), the planet Mars, and other night-sky objects using the observatory’s main telescope-- a 40-cm reflector.
The science education specialists of UP NISMED’s High School Earth Science Group will again facilitate three, live-guided stargazing sessions:
⭐17 February 2023 (6:00-8:00 p.m.) Observing the Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF)
a live-guided observation of the appearance of Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF)
⭐14 April 2023 (6:00-8:00 p.m.) Mars, The Red Planet
see up-close images and learn about the mysteries and the explorations about the Red Planet
⭐2 June 2023 (6:00-8:00 p.m.) Using a Planisphere
learn how to build your own planisphere, use it to navigate the night sky, and identify constellations

Best Meteor Shower of 2022?
This year's Leonid Meteor Shower will be active from November 6 to 30, producing its peak rate of meteors around November 18. Seen from Quezon City, at its peak, Leonids is estimated to produce 15 meteors per hour.
The Leonid meteors burn bright, move very quickly and have a high percentage of leaving behind a trail of smoke and debris known as a persistent train.
