100 questions total: Scored on a scaled system (0–1000)
✅ 400 points = PASS

You can:
Perform poorly in one subject and compensate by doing well in others. No requirement to “pass” each individual subject.
👉 This makes ASCPi more flexible
👉 Overall knowledge matters more than subject-by-subject perfection

In short:
✔ Strengths can offset weaknesses
✔ One weak area won’t automatically fail you

🔴 AIMS is stricter in passing rules
🟢 ASCPi is more forgiving due to cumulative scoring

Nonetheless, both are respected, challenging, and valuable.

2. Gather all the necessary requirements while preparing for an English Exam such as PTE, IELTS, OET, and TOEFL.

3. Complete the Application Form and a list of relevant application fees are available on the AIMS website.

4. Email your completed application form and scanned copy of documents to [email protected]

5. AIMS will send you a confirmation email when your Application Form and supporting documents arrives. You will receive an AIMS Assessment ID.

6. The AIMS National Office will email your Skills Assessment Result Letter to the email address you provided on your application form.

The AIMS Professional Examination is an assessment used by the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) for some internationally-trained Medical Laboratory Scientists who meet the qualifications of Australian standards after document assessment.

The subjects covered by the AIMS Exam are the following:

2. Chemical Pathology*
3. Genomic Pathology
4. Microbiology*
5. Hematology*
6. Transfusion Science*
7. Immunopathology

Note: To successfully pass the AIMS Professional Examination, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 50% in each core discipline with (*). If a candidate scores below 50% in any one of these subject areas, the exam will be considered unsuccessful, and they will be required to retake the examination, depending on AIMS instructions.

AIMS Professional Examination Application Deadlines:

You must apply in writing to sit the AIMS Professional Examination using the application form provided with your 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟏: 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫.

Closing dates to receive this application form are:

🗓️ 1 December for the March Examination
🗓️ 10 July for the September Examination

✅ You will receive notification of your: examination date; allocated starting time; instructions regarding your practice test, trial exam, and official exam; and detailed instructions on how to install the WebLock secured web browser software. The notification will be sent by the AIMS third party examination service provider to the email address provided on your application form.

The notification email will be sent to you by:

• The second week of February (for the March examinations)
• The second week of August (for the September examinations)

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐈𝐌𝐒 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐍𝐙𝐒𝐂𝐎 𝟐𝟑𝟒𝟔𝟏𝟏

The AIMS Professional Examination is a Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) paper consisting of 150 single response questions to be completed in three (3) hours. It is online remote proctored exam—it involves sitting the exam under live supervision using your computer's we**am and your mobile phone in a suitable location with reliable internet connectivity.

The examination consists of seven sections covering the following professional disciplines: Anatomical Pathology*, Chemical Pathology*, Genomic Pathology, Haematology*, Immunopathology, Medical Microbiology* and Transfusion Science*. Questions in all sections MUST be attempted and those disciplines asterisked (*) MUST be passed (i.e., at least 50% in each discipline) and a pass mark of 50% in either Genomic Pathology or Immunopathology must be achieved. To pass the examination overall 75 questions MUST be answered correctly. The distribution of questions in each professional discipline is indicated below:

14 points : Anatomical Pathology*
30 points : Chemical Pathology*
16 points : Genomic Pathology
30 points : Haematology*
14 points : Immunopathology
26 points : Medical Microbiology*
20 points : Transfusion Science*

Total: 150 points
