Human law always dances in limbo. It is never black or white. It is both rigid and flexible, vocal and silent, moral and amoral. To be a law student is to stand in the intersection of law, ethics, and morality and be confronted with challenging complexities. In navigating this paradox, one must wonder. The old adage holds true- the beginning of wisdom is wonder. Let the embers of wonder set ablaze the fire inside you so bright that your belief in your dreams never dims.
As you enter the Verbist Building let it be known that each of you carries a unique story of dreams gradually shaped by individual upbringings, experienced injustices, and high hopes of having a better life, and in this place of learning these stories are heard, valued and uplifted. Let these beautiful human narratives wrap you with warmth and comfort. In the pursuit of the dot, you are never alone because it is most especially a communal act.
You are now entering something far greater than yourself- a threshold of who you have been and who you are becoming. You are now joining a tradition and dialogue that carries the weight of the silent whispers of those who have gone before us- the jurists who hoped and prayed for a better world.
Remember that the worldโs greatest injustices were committed under the faรงade of law and in these times of crisis, you are to ask the most difficult questions.
The journey will not be easy as discomfort preambles growth. You will do the most impossible things just to get through the day without reaching the peaks of your breaking point. You will be legally and rigorously trained. You will meet legal luminaries who devoted their entire life for the love of law.
You will learn new skills, knowledge, and talents but most importantly you will learn how to be human. Law school not only humbles you. It humanizes you. You will learn how to rest when you are drowning in the complexity of polar codal provisions. You will learn how to breakdown when you mustered illusory bravery the entire day just to accomplish things. You will learn how to pray and build a deeper sense of intimacy not only with yourself but most importantly to the omnipotent God. You will learn how to love- the kind of love so brave and hopeful that it is willing to wrestle with its inner giants in pursuance of the dream of becoming.

Step in with faith, courage, humility, grit and a deep sense of purpose. May all of you learn what law is all about- not just a codification of rules but a living philosophy that evolves with time and grounded with fairness and justice at same time.
