On the Proposed Pax Silica Project
The University of the Assumption Central Student Council, together with the Recognized Student Organizations, firmly believes that innovation is not the enemy. Science, technology, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation have the potential to improve lives, create opportunities, and strengthen our nation's future.
Hindi kami laban sa teknolohiya. Hindi kami laban sa progreso.
What we stand against is development without accountability, innovation without transparency, and progress that comes at the expense of our people and our environment.
As student leaders, we recognize the potential opportunities that the proposed Pax Silica Project may bring. However, we also recognize that many Filipinos, including members of the academic community, environmental advocates, Indigenous Peoples, and affected communities, continue to raise legitimate questions and concerns regarding its environmental impact, water and energy requirements, public consultation, and long-term social and economic consequences.
At hangga't nananatiling hindi sapat ang mga kasagutang ito, hindi sapat ang simpleng pangakong "magdadala ito ng progreso."

Not because we reject innovation, but because we believe innovation must first protect the welfare of the people and integrity of the environment it claims to serve.
Ano ang silbi ng artificial intelligence kung kapalit nito ang pagkasira ng ating kalikasan?
Ano ang saysay ng technological advancement kung ang mismong mamamayang Pilipino ang unang maaapektuhan?
Kung ang pag-unlad ay nagiging dahilan upang malagay sa alanganin ang ating likas na yaman, kabuhayan, at kinabukasan, para saan pa ang pag-unlad na iyon?
We believe that development should never force Filipinos to choose between economic growth and environmental protection. A truly progressive nation is one that can achieve both.
Kaya naman nananawagan kami sa pamahalaan at sa lahat ng kinauukulang ahensya na tiyakin ang ganap na transparency, komprehensibong environmental at social impact assessments, makabuluhang konsultasyon sa mga maaapektuhang komunidad, at malinaw na plano para sa pangangalaga sa ating tubig, enerhiya, kalikasan, at pambansang interes.
The Filipino youth deserve more than promises.
We deserve proof.
We deserve development that is responsible.
We deserve innovation that is sustainable.
And above all, we deserve a future where technology empowers people, not one where people are sacrificed for technology.
Hindi kami laban sa kinabukasan. Ang ipinaglalaban namin ay isang kinabukasang makatao, makakalikasan, at tunay na para sa bawat Pilipino.
