Stepping beyond the classrooms, students of Basey National High School: Niรฑa Magdalaine B. Baliclic, Mashly Jane M. Emata, Cielo B. Bateo, and Rafael A. Gallaza, together with Maโam Mercedes T. Consus, a dedicated BNHS Science Teacher, took part in the 2026 Climate Science Youth Camp on Earth Science at the National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of the Philippines in Manila that was conducted on September 7โ11, 2026, hosted by DOST-SEI.
The program encouraged young individuals to take action in mitigating climate change, gaining deeper insights about Earth systems, and the science behind building a more resilient future.
The camp's participants streched across different selected schools of Region 8. Guests, including the directors of DOST and the National Museum of the Philippines, were also present and delivered messages encouraging the participants to become future scholars who could contribute to the development of the country.
Each day of the camp featured different lecturers, including professional geologists and scientists, who taught lessons on various topics. These included different types of rocks, fossils, microfossils, meteorites, micrometeorites, geology, minerals as natural pigments, the geological time scale, and geohazards.
Through learning, collaboration, and hands-on experiences, these young minds explored how science can become a powerful tool for understanding our planet and protecting it for generations to come. ๐ฑ๐ฌ
