UST-AGOS (Aquatic Guild of Scientists) What is our vision? What do we do?

UST-AGOS (Aquatic Guild of Scientists) includes researchers and students of The University of Santo Tomas who conduct research on Philippine aquatic ecosystems. We envision UST-AGOS to be at the forefront of basic and applied aquatic research in the country, dedicated to the generation and enhancement of knowledge on Philippine freshwater and marine ecosystems as a tool for conservation and sustai

Beneath the surface of the world above is a self-sustaining ecosystem inhabited by the smallest crustaceans to the largest of marine giants. These aquatic animals sustain the balance of life beneath the earth, regulating ecosystems, supporting food webs, and serving as vital indicators of environmental health. 🌊🐟🐋

Last April 3, in celebration of World Aquatic Animal Day, UST-AGOS members showcased their favorite species as symbols of inspiration and beauty. As pressures from pollution, habitat loss, and climate change threaten our sea-dwellers, the responsibility to protect these species and their habitats becomes ever more urgent. 🌏

Through science, conservation, and collective action, we can ensure that aquatic life continues to thrive for generations to come.

Because when aquatic life disappears, the ripple reaches us all. 💙

Freshwater is our most vital, yet most finite, resource. Beyond its immediate utility, the health of our aquatic ecosystems serves as the primary indicator of environmental stability and community resilience. 💧🌿

Advocating for the sustainable management of water resources is no longer optional; it is a prerequisite for securing our resources for the long term. In this mission, gender equality and the empowerment of women and Indigenous communities are essential; as the traditional guardians of our natural heritage, their leadership is the key to active, responsible stewardship. 🌏🛡️

This World Water Day, we emphasize the urgency of safeguarding our local waters. Through informed action and dedicated conservation, we can ensure that our freshwater resources remain available for generations to come. 🌊

Every drop counts. Every ripple matters. ✨

Small yet significant, parasites are often unseen, but their impact flows across entire ecosystems. 🌊🔬

This World Parasite Awareness Day, UST-AGOS highlights the vital roles parasites play in advancing scientific discovery. As we continue to explore Philippine aquatic ecosystems, we see that every interaction, seen or unseen, contributes to the bigger picture of life. 🌎

Because in nature, everything is connected, even parasites.

Today, we celebrate and appreciate our taxonomists! 🧬🔬🌿

Taxonomy doesn’t just classify the world’s diverse species 🐾🌍, but it also helps us understand why their conservation and biodiversity matter 🌱🦋🐠

It gives us a glimpse into the interconnectedness of life 🔗, showing how all organisms are linked through time ⏳🧬

Celebrating our very own resident taxonomists who maintains and continues to give us a glimpse of our local diversity through time and space. A life through time! 🌎✨🧫

Like the agos of water, women move with strength, grace, and resilience. 🌊💜

This Women’s Month, UST AGOS proudly celebrates the women who continue to inspire, lead, and create meaningful change in our communities. Their perseverance and courage remind us that progress flows forward when women rise together.
Let us continue to support, uplift, and empower one another. ✨

𝑱𝒂𝒏𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒚, 𝑭𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒖𝒂𝒓𝒚, 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒔𝒉?

𝑆𝑎𝑙𝑎𝑚𝑎𝑡 𝑘𝑎𝑎𝑦u!

Rivers connect mountains to oceans, nature to people, and present to future generations.

On this International Day of Action for Rivers, we commit to protecting our waterways, restoring ecosystems, and ensuring clean water for all.

Because when rivers flow freely, life flows with them.
