“The Philippine flag is more than just a piece of fabric stitched together with red, white, blue, and gold.
It is the soul of our nation. It is a living symbol of who we are as a people—our pain, our sacrifices, our victories, and our dreams.
Each color, each shape, each symbol has meaning. It speaks not only to our eyes, but to our hearts:
• The blue field stands for peace, truth, and justice—reminding us that the strength of a country does not lie in violence, but in the fairness and unity of its people.
• The red field symbolizes patriotism and valor—a tribute to the courage of our ancestors who shed their blood so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today.
• The white triangle represents equality and fraternity—a call to embrace all Filipinos, regardless of race, region, or status. It reminds us that we are stronger together.
• The three stars stand for Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao—the three major island groups of our archipelago, diverse yet bound by one identity, one heart.
• The sun with eight rays honors the first eight provinces that rose in revolt against colonization: Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Laguna, and Batangas.
These rays shine brightly, reminding us that freedom is earned through courage and unity.
This flag has flown above classrooms, battlefields, government offices, and peaceful streets. It has stood in storms and celebrations. It has covered the caskets of heroes and waved during school flag ceremonies. In every setting, it stood as a silent witness to our shared history.
And now, though it has grown old and worn, it has not lost its dignity. Today, as we prepare to lay it to rest, we do so not with sadness—but with deep respect and pride.
Because this is not just a farewell—it is a promise.
A promise that we, the youth and future of this nation, will continue to carry its meaning. That we will uphold the values it has taught us—peace, bravery, unity, and love of country.
Let this ceremony be more than a requirement. Let it be a reminder—that even when the flag is gone, what it stood for must live on in us.
Mabuhay ang watawat. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas.”
