The research investigates the preparedness of BSIS students from DMMMSU-NLUC for employment, highlighting competency gaps revealed by the AMCAT. The Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry continues to demand graduates equipped with strong domain knowledge, communication skills, logical reasoning, and administrative competencies. AMCAT findings showed that BSIS students were moderately skilled in Basic Computer Literacy, English, and Quantitative Ability but had notable deficiencies in Office Administration, Logical Ability, Information Gathering and Synthesis, and Internet Ability. © 2026 Springer Nature.

Wild bird hunting in the Philippines continues despite long-standing legal restrictions under Republic Act No. 9147. Based on qualitative field observations, interviews, and secondary materials, this study examines bird hunting through the lens of deviant leisure. Neutralization theory and social learning theory help explain how hunting is learned, justified, and reproduced across generations. Rather than being viewed solely as illegal behavior, hunting is often understood locally as routine, skill based, and socially meaningful. These interpretations blur the boundary between subsistence, work, and leisure, complicating conventional distinctions between lawful recreation and deviance. The study highlights how everyday leisure practices can persist in tension with formal environmental regulation. © 2026 Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.

Dr. Demot evaluated the health profiles and body mass index (BMI) of older individuals while comparing their skill levels in pickleball and lawn tennis, with emphasis on serving, dinking, volleying, forehand, and backhand techniques. Twenty individuals, ten from Agoo, La Union, Philippines and ten from Asingan, Pangasinan, Philippines who were 60 years of age or older, were purposefully chosen. A questionnaire and skill evaluations utilizing the USAPA Player Skill Rating Definitions were used to gather data, which were then assessed by seasoned coaches and senior technical officials. Descriptive statistics analyzed BMI and health conditions, weighted means assessed skill levels, and the Mann-Whitney U test determined significant differences between the sports. Results showed that 80% of participants had normal BMI, with common health concerns including eyesight problems (55%), arthritis (45%), and diabetes (20%), suggesting that regular participation in racket sports supports physical health and functional independence. Skill assessments revealed that pickleball players generally achieved higher ratings in serving, volleying, and forehand classified as “Advanced Competitive”, while lawn tennis players excelled in forehand due to repeated rallying and serve-volley drills, with overall skill levels classified as “Advanced Intermediate.” Significant differences were observed in serving, dinking, backhand, and forehand skills, reflecting the distinct technical demands of each sport, while volleying showed no significant difference. These findings highlight that engagement in racket sports enhances technical proficiency, coordination, reaction time, and overall physical and mental well-being in older adults, supporting their inclusion in community-based recreational programs to promote healthy aging. © 2026, Iquz Galaxy Publisher. Dr. Ong examined the role of social presence in shaping the tertiary level students’ satisfaction with Flexible Online Learning (FOL) courses in the Philippines. A convergent parallel mixed-method design was employed, combining a quantitative survey with qualitative analysis of students’ comments. A total of 607 respondents were selected through stratified random sampling with proportional allocation across three teacher education programs. Quantitative data were gathered using the Social Presence Questionnaire of Online Collaborative Learning (SPQOCL) and the Satisfaction Scale (SS), and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and ordinal regression, while qualitative responses were examined through thematic analysis to provide deeper insights. The findings indicated a significant relationship between students' year level and the level of social presence and satisfaction in FOL courses. Conversely, no significant relationships were identified between learning satisfaction and demographic characteristics, including gender (male and female), age, teacher education program, and internet access. These findings underscore the role of social presence in enhancing student satisfaction and highlight the contextual value of higher education institutions experiencing the ongoing shifts toward a more flexible online learning modality. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Prof. Marzan studied the traditional methods for measuring Mugil cepphalus fish in the fisheries industry which rely heavily on manual techniques that are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to human error. These limitations can slow research activities and affect the efficiency of fishery resource management. To address this problem, an automated solution that streamlines morphometric measurement while improving accuracy and consistency was developed. The system is implemented as a userfriendly, responsive web application that enables users to easily capture fish images with their smartphones. Within the application, several image preprocessing techniques are applied to improve image quality and diversity before analysis. To determine the most effective approach for keypoint detection, five deep learning architectures: ResNet50, MobileNetV3, ConvNeXt, NASNetMobile, and EfficientNetV2. Results show that ConvNeXt achieved the best performance, obtaining an Object Keypoint Similarity (OKS) score of 0.9758 in detecting 24 anatomical landmarks of Mugil cephalus fish. The developed MorphoNet-Mugil application demonstrated strong real-world performance, with an average inference time of 5.24 seconds and a mean absolute error of 4.91. These findings suggest that the proposed system provides an efficient and reliable automated alternative to traditional morphometric measurement methods. By integrating deep learning and image preprocessing within a desktop and mobile platform, this work contributes a practical tool that can support researchers and fish farmers in improving data collection and decision-making in aquaculture. © 2026 IEEE.

Prof. Flores studied the Philippine chicken industry relying heavily on effective egg fertility detection to sustain its growth. Traditional manual candling techniques are prone to human error and inefficiency; thus, there is a need for automation. While deep learning models such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and YOLO have shown great potential for real-time object detection, a noteworthy gap in prior research is their application to native Philippine chickens due to a lack of publicly available image datasets. The current study fills this gap by developing and optimizing a YOLOv11 model for egg fertility detection in native Philippine chickens. A grid search was implemented to tune key parameters, such as the learning rate, optimizer (SGD, Adam, RMSProp), and weight decay, to improve the detector. Overall, careful tuning increases the model’s performance. The best configuration used SGD with a 0.01 learning rate and a 0.0001 weight decay. The tuned model outperformed the baseline model in terms of mAP50-95, precision, and recall, while having faster inference speed. This focused tuning makes YOLOv11 more reliable in detecting the fertility of chicken eggs. © by the authors

Dr. Jayme understood how price signals are transmitted along agricultural value chains which is critical for assessing market coordination and equity, particularly in developing economies. This study analyzes vertical price transmission in the Philippine corn market across farmgate, wholesale, and retail levels using monthly data from 1990 to 2020. Employing both linear and nonlinear econometric approaches - specifically the Threshold Vector Error Correction Model (TVECM) - the analysis identifies cointegrated relationships among prices and reveals asymmetric, threshold-dependent adjustments. Results show that farmgate prices respond strongly to deviations from equilibrium, wholesale prices adjust in a regime-dependent manner, and retail prices remain relatively rigid. These dynamics indicate that price transmission is often sluggish and uneven, reflecting transaction costs, market power disparities, and coordination frictions. Such patterns place a disproportionate adjustment burden on farmers while limiting consumer benefits from falling upstream prices. The findings highlight the importance of policies that improve supply chain integration, strengthen farmer bargaining power, and enhance price monitoring. By focusing on asymmetric transmission and nonlinear adjustments, this study provides new insights into how price relationships shape the performance of the Philippine corn market. © 2026 the author(s), published by De Gruyter, Berlin/Boston.
