At the dawn of Saturday, Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan, who led a Spanish expedition, saw above the horizon the towering heights of Samar. This was the 'rediscovery' of the Philippines. Ferdinand Magellan called the place the Archipelago de San Lazaro. 🌅

Contrary to the romanticized tale of Magellan 'discovering' the Philippines in 1521, it's vital to remember that the islands thrived long before his arrival. 🌴

Magellan's journey was just a slice of European exploration, but the Philippines were already a hub of diverse cultures. 🗺️

While his arrival brought change, like Christianity and new technologies, let's not overlook the thriving communities pre-existing his visit. 🌏

Correcting this misconception is crucial for historical accuracy and to honor indigenous heritage, fostering appreciation for all cultures involved. 📚
