“Bakit parang paulit-ulit na lang?”

A staff member keeps making the same mistake.
A supervisor gets frustrated.

So the usual response?
“Napagsabihan ko na siya.”
“Bakit hindi niya kasi maintindihan?”
“Paulit-ulit na lang.”

But sometimes, the problem isn’t simply lack of discipline or lack of ability.

Maybe the employee doesn’t fully understand the expectation.

Maybe there’s a skill gap.

Maybe they’re afraid to ask questions.
Maybe they received instructions—but not enough guidance.

This is where coaching becomes important.

“What do you think happened?”

A splint is not simply something you mold around a hand.

Behind every properly fabricated splint is a process—understanding the anatomy and kinesiology, identifying the forces acting on the hand, assessing the patient's needs, planning the appropriate orthosis, selecting and handling the right thermoplastic material, and finally evaluating whether the splint actually serves its intended purpose.

And this is where splinting becomes more than just a fabrication skill.
It requires clinical reasoning, precision, proper positioning, and hands-on practice.

For those who want to strengthen their practical skills, our Basic Splinting Workshop brings these concepts together through guided demonstrations and hands-on activities involving selected splints for different clinical conditions, including fracture, cumulative trauma disorders, cerebrovascular accident, and lower-extremity orthotic application.

But we also wanted to take the discussion a little further.

Beyond fabrication, participants will also be introduced to the basic costing and pricing considerations in splinting—because understanding the materials, expenses, and actual cost involved is part of developing a sustainable practice.
