Thus, with the finished risk assessment, we now move on to recommendations.

𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘵𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮, 𝘪𝘬𝘢 𝘯𝘨𝘢

In order to 𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙠 and 𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮, either one of the three variable of disaster risk (𝙝𝙖𝙯𝙖𝙧𝙙, 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚, 𝙫𝙪𝙡𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮) must be 𝗗𝗜𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗗 or the 𝙘𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮 must be 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗗. Logically, coping capacities increase the person’s chance to survive or withstand a disaster. Mathematically, given the equation for disaster risk as hazard * exposure * vulnerability / coping capacity, decreasing the numerator or increasing the denominator would produce a smaller disaster risk.

Below, the chart describes short-term recommendations and long-term recommendations for various natural, technological, and other socio-natural hazards, identifying the variables targeted by each suggestion, and improving hazard safety.

🚨𝘔𝘢𝘢𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘭𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰 𝘴𝘢 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘺𝘰𝘯🚨

With all of the conducted risk assessments, these information can then be collated and synthesized into a 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙠 𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙭. A risk matrix is a graphical representation of hazards, identifying the value of their overall numerical risk by determining their impact and frequency of occurrence.

The Earthquake Hazard, represented as Risk 1 or R1 in the chart, lies on the overall risk value of 5 (Medium) with its Very High impact level of 5 and Very Low frequency score of 1. As the barangay is prone to an intensity VIII earthquake, its impact level value is high, which is contrasted with the rare chance of the said earthquake to occur, giving it a low frequency value.

The Flooding Hazard, as identified through Project NOAH, is represented as Risk 2 or R2 in the chart, which lies on the overall risk value of 2 (Low). Taken from the flooding hazard assessment conducted by the website, the barangay has low susceptibility to flooding, which explains the low impact levels and frequency scores of 2 and 1 respectively.

Lastly, the Electrical Fire Hazard, which ranks 1 overall, is represented as Risk 3 or R3, which lies on the overall risk value of 10 (Medium). As electrical fires are violent and destructive, it gains a very high impact level of 5, which is also supported by the abundance of octopus wiring. It gains a low frequency score of 2 as it only usually naturally happens during thunderstorms or heavy rainfall with strong winds.

Alam ba ninyo kung saan matatagpuan ang pinakamalapit na mga 𝙚𝙫𝙖𝙘𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨, 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙛𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨, 𝙖𝙩 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚𝙩𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙯𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 sa inyong komunidad?

Through the use of 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙜𝙡𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙥𝙨, 𝙃𝙖𝙯𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙃𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙃, and 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙉𝙊𝘼𝙃, the following natural and technological hazards located throughout Barangay Sikatuna Village were the following: accident-prone areas, areas with octopus wiring, areas under construction, and flood-prone areas. As seen in the map, 𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 was the 𝗠𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗡𝗧 hazard found throughout the community, existing in almost every corner of the streets, underscoring an underlying issue within the barangay.

With this, nearby facilities were also identified which included the nearest public schools, health facilities, road networks, hospital, police station, and fire station. It is important that aside from knowing the emergency hotlines, the location of these areas must also be identified in case of emergencies.

🚨𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘺𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘶𝘸𝘢𝘨 𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢 𝘣𝘢𝘩𝘢🚨

𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, 𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙗𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝙨𝙪𝙨𝙘𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙞𝙩?

According to 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙉𝙊𝘼𝙃, which can determine a location’s susceptibility to flooding, landslides, and storm surges, Barangay Sikatuna Village is actually quite 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 from these hazards. There is 𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗟𝗘 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗢 hazard levels present in the community, as seen from the map. The only notable areas of low to medium hazard level flooding include the congested intersection between Anonas and V. Luna, and parts of Maginhawa.

𝙁𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 is defined as the overflow of water from a river or another body of water due to rainfall. It may also occur due to the failage of drainages, causing pluvial floods which is most common in low-lying residential areas.

𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙚 is defined as the movement of earth, rock, or debris due to gravity. It can be caused by continuous heavy rainfall, strong earthquakes, or human activities.

𝙎𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙎𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚 is defined as a tsunami-like phenomenon of rising water resulting from typhoons.

🚨𝘛𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘢𝘯, 𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘵𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮🚨

🚨𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘺𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘸𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘥𝘶𝘥𝘶𝘭𝘰𝘵 𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘶𝘯𝘢🚨

What is a hazard? How is it defined?

According to the 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙍𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 (𝙐𝙉𝙄𝙎𝘿𝙍), a hazard is a dangerous phenomenon, substance, human activity, condition, that may cause loss of life, injury or other health impacts, property damage, loss of livelihoods and services, social and economic disruptions, or environmental damage.

Using the 𝙃𝙖𝙯𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙃𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙃 application or website, we can actually determine and identify the hazards that we may be exposed to. As seen from the hazard assessment on Barangay Sikatuna Village, these hazards may be divided into three: seismic hazards, volcanic hazards, and hydrometeorological hazards. Fear not however, for Sikatuna Village has 𝗟𝗢𝗪 𝗦𝗨𝗦𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧𝗜𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 to most of these hazards, except for Ground Shaking. The barangay is located 2.1km away from the West Valley Fault Line, and at least 69.5km away from Taal Volcano, keeping it safe from expected earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. It is also landlocked and therefore is not prone to tsunamis and storm surges.
