🌱You are not competing with TikTok. You would lose, and you do not need to.

Short-form media did not destroy your learners' attention span. It trained them to expect a payoff quickly. That is a different problem, and it has a teaching answer rather than a performance one.

So give them one. In the first ten minutes: a question worth answering, a reason to keep going, and a visible win.

Engagement is not entertainment. It is momentum. Attention is earned, not performed.

Our junior high session on 10 October is about building that momentum on purpose.

Share this with a JHS teacher who needed to hear it.

‼️You do not have to wait for the final output to know whether students are learning.

Listen while they discuss. Read the questions they ask. Watch the choices they make. Notice how they revise. In active learning the process itself is evidence, and it arrives while you can still act on it.

Four checkpoints worth building in:
- Explain your reasoning.
- Show what changed.
- What are you unsure about?
- What will you try next?

Assessment can be part of the learning, not just the score after it.

If you have a co-teacher or someone you know who is working to make their classroom more active and responsive, share this with them.

✨Three Saturdays. Three capabilities.✨

Not three topics to sit through, but three things you will be able to do afterwards:

1. Hold the attention of a class raised on short-form video, without turning every lesson into a performance. (Engaging the TikTok Generation, Sat 10 Oct, Jhoanne C. Orillo, Ph.D, 5 CPD points)

2. Turn a real classroom problem into documented evidence with one small action research cycle. (Practical Action Research for Teachers, Sat 24 Oct, Starr Clyde L. Sebial, Ph.D, 4 CPD points)

3. Build higher-order thinking through Mother Tongue and Filipino, in the language learners actually think in. (Critical Thinking through Language, Sat 7 Nov, Alvin Ringgo Reyes, 5 CPD points)

8:00 AM to 4:00 PM via Zoom. PHP 500.00 per session. PRC-accredited CPD points and a certificate on completion.

A student can participate without truly being engaged.

They can raise a hand, read a line, answer a question, and finish a worksheet, but that does not always mean they understand what they are learning.

Participation is easy to see, which is why we sometimes mistake it for real learning.

True engagement goes deeper. It happens when students think, ask questions, make connections, explain their ideas, and reflect on what they know.

The goal is not just to keep students busy or responsive. It is to help them think and make meaning.

What signs tell you that a student is truly engaged? Share your thoughts below.
