The UP SUCs/LUCs Collaboration Program attended the 5th edition of the Colleges and Universities Public Service Conference (CUPSCon5) spearheaded by the UP Padayon Public Service Office and hosted by the Palawan State University last August 28-30, 2024.

Focusing on the “Future of Public Service in the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Trends, Challenges, and Prospects”, the conference highlighted several conversations on integrating advancements in technology with public service.

The conference was officially opened with remarks from Palawan Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates, Puerto Princesa Mayor Lucio Bayron, PSU President Ramon Docto, and UP President Angelo Jimenez.

Broadcast journalist and the Chairperson of the UP Department of Journalism, Kara Patria David-Cancio, delivered a compelling speech on the “power of stories” that commenced the series of presentations and discussions.

The Program, composed of EVP Jose Fernando Alcantara, Director Jowima Ang-Reyes, Prof. Ranjit Rye, Mr. Ronnie Azura, Mr. Larry Mapolon, and Senior Project Officer Ged Fruto, met with PSU President Ramon Docto and other SUC representatives and introduced the principal projects of the program.

The UP SUCs/LUCs Collaboration Program extends its gratitude to the UP Padayon Public Service Office and Director Cherish Aileen Brillon for accommodating the program.

The UP SUCs/LUCs Collaboration Program participated in the 2024 Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Annual Convention and General Assembly, held July 15-17 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Themed "𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙐𝘾𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩", the assembly explored various strategies to enhance SUC programs and initiatives, with a particular focus on topics such as The Landscape of Philippine Higher Education; Financing Higher Education in the Philippines; Innovation and Digital Governance in Higher Education; Quality Assurance in Higher Education; Internationalization in Higher Education; Sustainable Development in SUCs; and Health, Wellness, and Longevity.

Program representatives, Consultant Ronnie B. Azura, Principal Project ED Alfredo Mahar Francisco Lagmay, and Senior Project Officer Jona Claire Turalde, engaged with SUCs from various regions and introduced the program's key projects and future collaboration initiatives.

UP extends its gratitude to PASUC and President Tirso A. Ronquillo for the opportunity to gather and establish relationships with other SUCs. The program assures the association of its steadfast commitment to elevating the public service in higher education through collaboration.

Director Jowima Ang-Reyes and Consultant Ronnie Azura of the University of the Philippines State Universities and Colleges / Local Universities and Colleges (UP SUCs and LUCs) Collaboration Program represented the UP System at the SUC Fair 2024 held at KCC Mall de Zamboanga from July 9-11, 2024.

Organized by the Commission on Higher Education in partnership with Western Mindanao State University, the event highlighted this year’s theme, “Weaving Culture and Innovation for a Transformative, Resilient, and Globally Recognized Philippine Higher Education.” This theme underscores the commitment to advancing higher education, research, and development by leveraging cultural heritage to foster local innovation.

UP’s sixth Flagship Program, “Active and Collaborative Partnerships with SUCs, NGAs, LGUs, Private Sector, and Civil Society,” fosters inclusive development through strategic collaborations.

This flagship program is exemplified by the UP SUC/LUC Collaboration Office, which serves as a hub for cross-sectoral cooperation, and the Bangsamoro Development Initiatives, which empower communities through participatory governance and address pressing socio- economic challenges. Projects like the UP Pahinungod House, Starlink in Sulu, and Pailaw sa Butuan demonstrate UP’s commitment to innovative solutions and inclusive development in partnership with various stakeholders.
