IMPROVING OUR UNDERSTANDING OF THE FUTURE OF WORK
We need to raise the right questions about FoW to make it matter to parties who need to act. Below are some examples:
To the workers: What if you know you will be unemployed and unemployable in five years? What can you do today or this year to avert that from happening? Will you upgrade your skills? Will you change career?
To the parents: What if you know your children will struggle to find jobs in the future? Will you still invest your hard-earned money by enrolling them in traditional schools? How should you educate your children to make them future-ready?
To governments: What if you know your country will have 40% unemployment rate in the future? What if you know it is because of terrible skills and jobs mismatch? What labor policies will you recommend? What education and training policies will you put in place to avoid this situation in the future?

WE HAVE A CHANCE FOR AN EDUCATION RESET
In perhaps one of his last contributions to the world, Sir Ken Robinson (4 March 1950 — 21 August 2020) provided us his reflection on the current situation the world is experiencing: the COVID-19 pandemic. He argues we have a rare chance to do a 'global reset of education'. What does he mean by reset? He says: "We can reinvent schools, we can revitalize learning, and we can reignite the creative compassion of our communities, if we think differently. We can do this by working together, by continuing to build on collaborations that began during lockdowns".

Reflections on Education during COVID-19 Pandemic
2. Pandemic Brought Back Education To Where It Started
Before there were schools, the home is where all children were being educated. Parents understood their role as educators. Parents knew the future of the children depends on how and what they teach to their children.
The First Industrial Revolution invented our current school system. Parents have to work during the day so children have to go to schools. This ‘factory-model of education’ has been with us for about 260 years and it hasn't changed since.
I feel many of us parents have relegated our role as educators to the teachers of our children.

Reflections on Education during COVID-19 Pandemic
1. Parents can now observe the teachers
In normal times, parents have no way of knowing which teacher teach best. As a policy, schools don’t allow parents to sit in the classroom and observe the teacher.
How do parents know if a teacher is good at his or her job? First, they rely on the feedback from their kids. Second, they assume from the way teachers relate to the parents based on the few occassions they've met. The truth is parents have a scant idea what actually happens inside the classroom.

It's time for me to activate another pet idea I have been delaying for a long time. Textbooks in schools teach children about work and careers in the past. They talk about doctors, lawyers and engineers. White and blue-collar workers. They teach children about fathers working in offices while mothers stay at home. These jobs and work setup still exist. But those things don't reflect the reality we are in right now. The world has changed a lot but we're still teaching our children as if we're in the 1980s era. Nowadays, one can earn millions as a YouTuber, work as a SEO specialist or data scientist and stay at home.
So I will organize a group of professionals who are willing to talk about their jobs in front of children. And children can ask them questions to satisfy their curiosity. That way children can learn accurately about the jobs of people. Not just a simplified explanation from their textbooks. I will contact the schools and offer this service as an enhancement to the curriculum.
I would like to invite parents and professionals who are willing to volunteer and talk about your jobs. Let's discuss how we can prepare your talk to the kids.

Educating Children About Work | Knowledge Community The schools suspended classes last month because of the volcano eruption. So I have to bring my kids to my meetings because no one will be with them at home. My kids saw me in action when I met Fr. Dindo at Don Bosco Makati and Dir. Patti at TESDA.

Knowledge Community will organize a two-day seminar workshop on Jolly Phonics.
The seminar is designed for: 1) Parents who want to take an active role in helping their children become proficient readers; 2) Leaders who run day care centers, pre-schools and elementary schools; 3) Organizations supporting reading programs in the Philippines; and 4) Individuals who want to become certified Jolly Phonics instructors and trainers.
What is Jolly Phonics? It is a program that teaches children to read and write using synthetic phonics, which is widely recognized as the most effective way to teach children to read and write in English.
