Philippine Humanities Review special issues on "Speech Communication in the Philippines Now" available on SALIKSIK: UPD Journals Online
We are happy to share that the two special issues of the Philippine Humanities Review on "Speech Communication in the Philippines Now" (Volume 25, Issues 1 and 2) are accessible in SALIKSIK: UPD Journals Online. Edited by Assoc. Prof. Oscar T. Serquiรฑa, Jr. and Asst. Prof. Charles Erize P. Ladia, the issues contain 21 articles from faculty members and students that showcase research on speech communication's areas of concentration: performance studies, rhetoric, interpersonal communication, and instructional communication.

PHR 25.1 was released last February 2025 during a short program at the College of Arts and Letters Library while PHR 25.2 was launched last October 2025 during the Speech Communication Conference 2025 at the University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos.
"PHR is a Commission on Higher Education (CHED) accredited refereed journal of the College of Arts and Letters (CAL), University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. Managed by the Publications Program of CAL, the PHR publishes scholarly, critical and analytical works on various aspects of Philippine culture, the arts and letters, as well as creative works in the broad field of the humanities."

๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐๐๐ง: The students of Speech 126: Performance of the Literature of the World's Religions presented Ramayana as their culminating performance for the course.
The production showcased the students' engagement with religious literature through performance, highlighting their skills in interpretation, oral communication, and collaborative production. Drawing from the concepts and approaches explored throughout the semester, the culminating activity provided an opportunity for students to bring a significant literary text to life for an audience.

๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐ฃ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐๐๐ง: Speech 123 (Performance of Drama) section WFY staged an adaptation of NO EXIT, a play in one act by Jean-Paul Sartre, last May 29, 2026 at the Aldaba Recital Hall. ๐ญ
โNo Exitโ explores the premise of hellโor perhaps suggests something else in what we understand to be hell. In this staging, different performers portray same characters, evoking the sense of shared souls.
This was the culmination showcase of Speech 123: Performance of Drama class under Mr. Marc Stanley Mozo. Speech 123 is one of the electives under the Performance track of the BA Speech Communication Program.

Take a look into the first week of our ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฅ ๐๐ค๐ง๐ ๐จ๐๐ค๐ฅ๐จ for kids, tweens, and teens. A total of eight sections and 144 registered participants explored performance and storytelling for kids, basic public speaking for tweens, and advanced public speaking and argumentation for teens.
Tomorrow, June 11, is the culminating activity for all Speak Up kids, tweens, and teens classes.
Speak UP Workshop is a dynamic and interactive program designed by the UP Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts to help kids, tweens, teens, and professionals build confidence and express themselves more effectively. Instituted in 1959, the UP Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts (DSCTA) is a vibrant community for outstanding students, scholars, and practitioners in the fields of communication, theatre arts, and performance studies. It was awarded by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) as the 2022 Outstanding Institution for Humanities.

โKaalaman at Kalinga: Financial Literacy Lecture and Childrenโs Book Reading,โ happening on May 29, 2026, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Pook Ricarte Basketball Court, Brgy. UP Campus, UP Diliman.
In partnership with the Sangguniang Kabataan ng Brgy. UP Campus and the Pook Ricarte local community, this initiative highlights the power of communication in educating, engaging, and serving communities. Through storytelling and financial literacy discussions, the activity aims to foster both learning and care among participating children and residents.
